We have been together for 12 years, married for 8 and best friends since Day 1. We met online in 2009 and are a true Match.com success story. It only made sense to expand our family by looking online as well!
We worked very hard to buy our first home in 2014 and added our dog Kolby to our family in 2015. She is our "little bear" and would enjoy a new brother or sister to play frisbee with her or go to the park with!
Luiz has worked at his job for 11 years now and I, Shauna, spent over 20 years in retail buying and retail management. I look forward to staying home with our future little one and catching all of life's first moments. The first years are so important to a child's development and we have both financially planned to be able to spend this additional time with our child.
We will provide a healthy and loving environment in our home. We will set good examples of love, communication, honesty and respect. We will help our child to take their first steps, eat their veggies, study for tests, attend school/team events and support them in whatever path life may lead them down.
Our unconditional support will be a constant reminder of the joy that he/she has brought to our lives and the prayers that he/she has answered.
We will be forever proud to have this child as part of our family and call them our son or daughter.
We are very proud of our first home. It has 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a private, fenced backyard - so there is plenty of room to grow and play!
We do all of our own yardwork and enjoy winding down on the back deck in the evenings.
We have lived in our community for 8 years now. It was voted one of the 10 safest cities in the U.S. in 2016. This is why we are proud to start a family here.
Our town is also home to 380 acres of park lands and 19.5 miles of bike trails. We love the outdoors so this is a great way to spend family time!
There is also a nice park within walking distance and an elementary school a mile away. The elementary school is rated 9 out of 10 (above average) in school quality. Students at the school are making above average academic improvement and score above average on state tests.
I grew up in a small town in Mid-Michigan. I spent much of my childhood outdoors when the weather was nice helping my mom to garden or plant flowers.
In school I was involved in sports, dance and acting. I also studied very hard.
My parents were married for over 25 years prior to my dad passing away in 2002. I also have 1 sister and 1 brother, who are both looking forward to being an aunt and uncle to our future child.
My brother is married with 3 children and they live in Tennessee. We visited there recently this summer.
Family has always been very important to me and regardless of where I've been in life I keep them as a priority. My mother and extended family still live in Michigan. Luiz, Kolby and I make a couple trips home each year to see them.
Luiz's thoughts on Shauna:
Shauna is loving, caring, selfless, a team player and most of all a beautiful person. She is a daughter, sister, cousin, aunt, friend, dog mom and most of all my best friend.
Shauna has always been hard-working, goal-oriented, and successful in her career and personal life. She is a great listener and always open armed to comfort the people around her. She gets this trait from her mother, who has always been a positive role model in her life.
Shauna always makes time for her nieces and nephews as well. She plans fun adventures, craft activities, games and gifts. She also enjoys the outdoors and loves to walk, ride bikes and take Kolby on fun adventures. These include a ride to the dog park, Starbucks for a pup cup and other dog friendly events like baseball games and dog walks. I know she will pass on her passion for creativity and outdoor adventures to our future child.
From Mid-Michigan to the Windy City of Chicago, Shauna has stayed humble. Her great family values show in the way she carries herself. She has prepared to raise and guide this child throughout their lives. I trust she will unconditionally love him or her.
Growing up with siblings is what made my childhood memorable, from family parties at Tio's house to mini vacations like the Indiana Dunes, time with family was special.
I have 1 younger brother and 3 sisters. My parents have been married for 47 years.
As a child I was involved in sports like football, basketball and baseball. My father took me to my first Chicago White Sox Game in grade school and this is when I became a lifelong fan. I was able to help and spend time with my father by assisting him with his cleaning service company. We still have a great relationship and continue to see my parents regularly.
I will be excited and proud to introduce a new child to our welcoming and loving family.
Shauna's thoughts on Luiz:
Luiz is the most patient and gentle person and husband. It is the "little things" day in and day out that constantly impress me with Luiz. It is a "napkin note" in my lunch or my favorite candy bar tucked away in my purse for me to find. It is a text message to see how my day is going or a surprise new toy for Kolby.
I have no doubt it is the "little things" that will make Luiz stand out as a father as well. Whether it is comforting a child to sleep, teaching him or her to ride a bike, taking him or her to a Chicago White Sox game or just being there.
We always approach life as a team. When blessed with the chance to adopt, we will keep growing our team.
Luiz works hard during the week but we always have dinner together in the evening. Even after a long day he plays frisbee with Kolby in the backyard and helps clean up after dinner.
Luiz will be a wonderful dad to our future baby. His kindness, patience, generosity and love will help to make him a successful parent.
