We met and started dating in college. A west coast road trip a moment we both recall as a sign that the other might be “the one.” If you can happily spend 30 hours in a car with someone, you’re likely onto something.
After college, our jobs took us apart but we worked hard to make a long distance relationship thrive. Two years later we decided to put roots down together.
Luckily we both got new jobs within a few months and started saving for our engagement and wedding together, but Erik surprised Kathleen with a beautiful engagement weekend.
We were married a little over a year later with all of our close family and friends to help us celebrate.
Since then we have been building a life with friends, family, and our silly dog. We also love adventure and travel both around the Pacific Northwest and farther away from home.
Now we are ready for the next adventure of becoming parents! We have always imagined adoption as a wonderful way to welcome a child into our happy supportive home.
We have a cozy house with three bedrooms and a big fenced back yard.
We are in a residential neighborhood, but we like that we can also walk to the grocery store, coffee shops, restaurants and multiple parks. We are friendly with our neighbors.
In the summer, we also enjoy spending time at a summer cabin that Erik's dad and grandfather built and on our small power boat.
As a child my family moved around to various towns until we settled into one place when I was 9. That’s where I made my best childhood friends – some of whom I still keep in contact with today. I was a good student and extremely passionate about doing ballet, where I spent most of my after school hours. At home I had fun watching/playing with my baby brother.
Today I enjoy and am challenged by my work. My department also has good work life flexibility, so am confident I will be able to balance work with being a mom.
Outside of work I enjoy The Bar Method (exercise class) and reading. I am part of a book club with girlfriends many of whom bring their kids along. I also enjoy being in nature with Erik and our dog and travelling/seeing new things.
My parents are still married and living in a beach town. They are very excited to be first time grandparents and host us and the grandkids for “beach vacations.”
Adoption is a path to motherhood I have long considered. I will give a child all the unconditional love, support and cuddles I can.
I was born and raised in a small town in the same home that my parents still live in. It is a great city and great place to raise a family and I made many lifelong friends in the public school system.
My parents taught me to believe in fairness and justice. My parents both believed in hard work and doing your part to help the community and your family. My parents worked hard to send me to a private 4 year college and expected a lot from me as a result. I never wanted to disappoint my parents and that was their main way of letting me know when I wasn’t flying right.
I enjoy table top gaming with my close friends. In an age when people barely look up from their phone when you talk to them, playing a rousing game of Risk can be a hugely fun change of pace and opportunity to really connect with people you care about. I enjoy taking care of our yard and spending as much time in our backyard frolicking with our dog as much possible is usually our weekend goal. I love being on the water and want to recreate the great memories I have of exploring the great Pacific Northwest in boats with our future children.
I look forward to sharing my love of learning, enjoyment and appreciate of nature, and sense of morality. I want to raise children who understand how luckily we are to be alive on this beautiful planet and the responsibilities that come with it.
Together Kathleen and I have a lot of love to give. The more we have learned about adoption the more it has felt like the right choice to me.
