Starting a family has always been a dream of ours – one we’re happy to finally see come true. We have always known that we wanted to adopt and we’re excited to welcome a child into our loving and accepting home.
Steve was born and raised on Long Island while Dan grew up 30 minutes north of New York City. We met in 2011 while both attending Hofstra University. Dan volunteered to act in a student film which Steve was asked to help produce. It was love at first sight!
It didn’t take long for us to realize that we had found the person we wanted to spend the rest of our lives with. After Dan graduated in 2012, we maintained a long-distance relationship while Steve finished out the last year of college. Although the distance was challenging, we were dedicated to making it work. Not long after Steve graduated, we found a home and began building our life together.
Steve completed his master’s degree in social work and is currently providing psychotherapy and support to children in the local school districts. Dan has made a fulfilling career at a nationwide nonprofit supporting patients with kidney disease.
We have planned out our baby’s primary care for the early years. At the start, we will both be alternating our paid time off from work. Because Dan works remotely from home and Steve has the summers off, we will be able to devote plenty of time to nurturing our child. Both of our immediate families and close friends live nearby so we’ll have no shortage of support when needed.
We feel fortunate to live in a fun and diverse town, just 45 minutes north of New York City. Our community offers plenty of parks and trails for getting out into nature and taking family bike rides with our dog, Indiana. We’re also a quick train ride into New York City, where we love to visit museums, see shows, or just explore. Our favorite pastime is having close friends and family over for meals and game nights. We love to use our free time to the fullest and discovering new and unexpected adventures.
In 2015, we moved in to our house and spent the next year building it into a warm and inviting place we’re proud to call home. We rescued our dog, Indiana, the same year. When the weather is good, she loves playing outdoors and going for hikes on the local trails. At night, she loves snuggling up on the couch with the both of us. She gets excited any time our friends bring their children over because she loves to make them laugh. We know she’ll make a great big sister!
"Dan is not only my husband; he is my best friend. He is extremely thoughtful, responsible, and keeps me smiling. Dan cares deeply about others and is always able to cheer me up when I’m feeling down. Dan is very creative, nurturing, and warm. Dan is the kind of person that you love to be around. He’s always willing to make others feel welcome and cared-for. His genuine nature is why I fell in love with him." - Steve
"Steve has a way of always finding the silver lining in any situation. He has a huge heart and goes out of his way to support his family and friends. You’ll be hard pressed to find someone who cares about other people as much as him. He is also one of the funniest people I’ve ever met and has an infectious laugh that gets everyone laughing with him. I feel lucky every day to be able to call him my husband and know he’s going to be an amazing father." - Dan
