We met through mutual friends. Our first date was at a sushi restaurant (Michael had never eaten sushi but he didn't tell Alain that... so he was very unsure of what to order) and a walk to the beach. Just two months later we were living together, and a few years later we were married!
We love spending time together. Our days are spent reading, playing video games, working on projects around the house (Michael just planted a TON of vegetables.... nothing like fresh veggies from the garden!) .
We are very family oriented and have tight-knit families. Alain's family is supportive and excited about our journey to become Dads. They mostly live in Southern California near the Mexican border. We love going to visit.
Michael has tons of family in our area. His family is also supportive and excited. Michael's Mom has already started buying baby stuff and is so excited she wants to have a little nursery at her house for when we visit.
We consider ourselves to be very kind, loving, and accepting people. We know parenthood will have many challenges but we are so excited to be on that journey. We know we will be awesome Dads and provide a very amazing life for our child. Both Michael and Alain grew up with siblings, so we hope to adopt more than once so our children have siblings to spend time with.
We live in Northern California, in a city not too far from San Francisco. We love where we live, although we do have plans to move to a larger home so our children will have more space to play. Also, Michael wants to have a fun room (arts and crafts!)
Our house is a 3 bedroom home in a neighborhood that is known for being covered in Willow trees. We live just a few blocks from a beautiful community park, garden, and pool. There is also a small shopping plaza two blocks down that has a Starbucks, smoothie shop, gym, karate studio, and a few restaurants. There are also great schools within a half a mile.
The crime in our community is very low and in fact our neighborhood is known as being one of the safest in the areas.
We have become close friends with our next door neighbors who are retired. Our street is very quiet and everyone knows one another.
We have a big back yard with a lime tree. Michael just planted a TON of vegetables so we can always have access to fresh veggies. While we love to indulge in sweets and junk food now and then, we both believe it's important to eat healthy and exercise.
This is Michael. Alain is an amazing man. He is the most kind and loving person you can ever meet.
One of my favorite memories of him is when he and I went to SF Pride with my sister. (She passed away unexpectedly last year). I was urging them to hurry up and walk faster so we could go to lunch... and he stopped at an ice cream cart to get her some ice cream. He is so full of love and is basically a human teddy bear. I know he will be SUCH a great Dad.
One of the first things about Alain that I fell in love with was his bright smile. He is a genuinely kind and caring person and is always putting the needs of others before himself. No matter what he may have going on, he makes the time to listen and show how much he cares.
Alain grew up with a brother and sister in an agricultural community in Southern California, the son of two Mexican immigrants. He speaks fluent Spanish and we plan to teach our baby English and Spanish. Alain helped his Mom run her flower shop (which she still has) and learned a lot about computers from his Dad, who is an engineer. They are an important part of our family and we see them regularly. Alain’s sister visits us often as well. Alain’s brother lives in New Jersey with his wife, and they have recently welcomed a baby boy into the family. Our child will be surrounded by lots of loving, extended family.
Alain went to college at University of California at Davis. He played the vi- olin and wanted to be a veterinarian. His career goals shifted, and he eventually became a Police Officer, a job he takes great pride in. He loves working with members of the community and especially enjoys teaching new officers the proper ways to stay safe on the street and treat everyone with great respect. In his free time, Alain loves to play video games, read, and take our dogs on walks.
Seeing the way Alain interacts with children affirms my belief that he is going to be a fun, caring, and loving father. He is playful, full of energy, and loves being around kids. Alain has a heart of pure gold and I am so excited to see the kind of father he will be.
ABOUT MICHAEL, BY ALAIN
I believe that the key to building a healthy, happy home and family is to be with people you respect, love, and cherish. Michael is my key to building a beautiful home and family. Michael consistently puts the happiness of others before his own. Through his consistent caring and effort, he creates an environment that feels safe and com- forting.
Michael grew up in Richmond, California. His mother and stepfather are both retired hospital engineers. His father is a retired police officer and stepmom is a retired medical laboratory scientist. They live close to our home and are elated to embark on this journey with us.
Michael’s sense of responsibility started young. As a teenager, he worked hard through school and quickly moved out on his own. He has worked for the last 13 years in a 911 emergency dispatch center, as a supervisor.
His patience, strong work ethic, and empathy come through when talking to people in need and providing them the information and resources they need to get through difficult experiences.
I know Michael will be an excellent father. He is excited and anticipating the activities and trips we will share together with our child.
