We met in high school when Kathryn's best friend started dating Chris's twin brother (they're now married!). We became quick friends, dated all through college, and were married on a fun, humid, perfect Friday night in July of 2013.
It has always been a hope of ours to adopt, and we assumed our family would be made up of both biological children and adopted children. After struggling with infertility, it became very clear to us that adoption was going to be more than just a hope or a dream, but a huge part of our story, and we could not be more thrilled that God is using adoption to grow our family.
We love to spend time with our friends and family and playing with our sweet golden retriever, Theo. We also like to relax on our porch swing, travel, take walks around our neighborhood, watch movies, try new restaurants, take road trips, and wander around flea markets.
We bought a home we love in a historic neighborhood in May of 2016. It is a 2 story, 3 bedroom house with a large fenced-in backyard that sits on a great tree-lined street where there are always kids playing in front yards and there is a great park at the end of the street.
Our neighborhood is one of the more diverse neighborhoods in our city and this is one of the reasons we looked to make our home here. Living life with people that are of a different race or who come from a different culture than us is something we consider a priority, especially as we are entering into adoption. We know that our child will have their own story and background and that it may be different than ours. We want to fill their life with people of all races that can help us teach them the importance of diversity, and that will be able to positively influence their life in ways that even we can't.
Chris is my best friend. He is calm, friendly, logical, sensitive, fun-loving, patient, predictable and he can always make me laugh. He leads our family so well by keeping our faith in Christ the center of our home, always encouraging me, and consistently being a good steward of our finances.
Chris has a great job with a consistent Monday-Friday schedule so he is always home evenings and weekends. One of the best benefits of his job is that he will be able to stay home with me and our baby for three months after they're born!
Kathryn is the most caring person I have ever known. She is sweet, loving, compassionate, smart, funny, friendly and truly has a heart for others. She is my best friend and I am grateful to be her husband. Kathryn is so great with children, and I cannot wait to watch her become a mom.
Kathryn was a special education teacher for 4 years and she loved it. However, she has always wanted to be a stay-at-home mom and she is currently not teaching so she will be able to stay home as soon as we adopt. She is currently taking care of a close friend's daughter during the work day.
