Holden’s first snowman

We got a good snowstorm earlier this week. We made the best of it by spending some time playing outside in the snow. Holden got to help build his first snowman, but of course his favorite part was throwing snowballs at his dads. Then the fun had to be cut short because of a potty emergency! Read more »

Fall Cleanup

The leaves finally fell off the trees over the last couple of weeks, so we spent some time raking and cleaning up the yard for the winter. The garden is prepped, the compost bin is full, but most importantly, we all had a great time jumping in the pile of leaves! Holden’s favorite part was actually the leaf Read more »

Happy Halloween!

It may have rained here this year, but it didn’t stop us from taking our son trick-or-treating for his first time. We all dressed up as dinosaurs (he got to be T. rex, his favorite). He had a great time walking around the neighborhood getting candy, and had just as much fun seeing everyone else’s costumes and Read more »

Pumpkin Patch

We’ve had some beautiful fall weather recently, so we took advantage and visited a pumpkin patch to pick out pumpkins for carving. This pumpkin patch also had a bakery (Holden loved the donuts!), a barn with some farm animals, and even a little “brewery.” There was something for everyone. We went out into the pumpkin Read more »

Weekend trip to Ithaca

This weekend Seth went to a veterinary conference for work. The conference was at the vet school at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY, where Chris went to college, so while Seth was off learning, Chris and Holden had some fun touring campus. Holden also had a great time splashing around in the hotel pool, and getting to stay Read more »

Trip to the Quad Cities

Last weekend we traveled to the Quad Cities (in Iowa and Illinois) to visit Seth’s family and go to a friend’s wedding. Holden got to spend some quality time with his grandparents and cousins, and even got to spend the night at grandma’s house while dads got a night out at the wedding with friends. We made Read more »

Autumn Apple Picking

Pumpkins always get more attention every fall, but this weekend we enjoyed going to our favorite local apple orchard. We took a tractor-pulled wagon ride out to the middle of the orchard (which Holden loved) and picked a bag full of fresh apples. We had lunch at the cafe and then Holden got to ride a pony. We finished off the Read more »

Company for the Weekend - Fair and Food

Chris’s family came to visit over the weekend. As is usually the case with our family, we made a huge amount of food. We all chipped in to cook a big middle eastern themed meal (with falafel), and a birthday cake for our sister-in-law’s birthday. We also had to take a group trip to the state fair so the kids could Read more »

End of Summer Mini-Vacation

We spent a log weekend with Chris’s family. On Sunday we got to go to Block Island for the day - this is a long-standing family tradition summer vacation destination for Chris’s family. We spent the day on the beach - Holden got to play in the sand and splash in the waves. When we realized we read the ferry Read more »

Nine Years, How Did That Happen?

We celebrated our 9th wedding anniversary this week. It’s hard to believe nine years have already passed since we got married. Over the weekend we were able to get a babysitter for an evening and have a date night. We took some time to reflect on how much has changed since our wedding. We’ve lived in 3 different Read more »

First Harvest Of The Season

This is our first full summer in this house, and we were too busy in our old house getting ready to move last summer to work on the garden. So this year we’re excited to finally get to eat some fresh veggies and make home-grown tomato sauce. There are a ton of tomatoes on the vine getting ready to ripen, and we finally Read more »

Goodbye for now, Colorado!

And just like that, it’s over! We had such a great vacation. Holden had a great time playing with his cousins, and we thoroughly enjoyed watching them run around, play, sing, and make so many memories. It was also great to catch up with Seth’s parents and siblings. Holden definitely took advantage of having Read more »

Vacation Jog in the Mountains

We’re on vacation in Colorado with Seth’s family. Holden has been enjoying getting to play with his three little cousins, and we’ve been having fun catching up with family. This morning we went for a run on a mountain trail with one of Seth’s sisters (she served as our photographer). We didn’t Read more »

New Family Tradition - Sunday Pancakes

Over the past year we have started a new family tradition - every Sunday morning we make pancakes together as a family. (Sometimes we make waffles instead). Holden has become a big fan of the idea and likes to help out. When family comes to visit, we just make an extra big batch. We usually have plenty of leftovers too, which Read more »

Enjoying the Sun

After a busy work week, we had nice weekend with amazing weather. Our dog (Daphne) was soaking up the sun (that’s her in the picture!). We went to the local pride parade (Holden enjoyed getting candy). We also had a couple friends come over for snacks in the afternoon. Holden got everyone to play an impromptu round of Read more »

Ice cream and the park

It’s mostly been a cool and rainy spring here in upstate New York, so we were excited to finally have a weekend with warm temperatures and sunny skies this week. We took advantage of the nice weather by going for a walk to get a snack at the ice cream place down the street from our house. Afterwards, we walked down to Read more »

Birthday Celebration with Family

Our son’s birthday was this past weekend, so we had lots of family in town to celebrate! We hosted, so every bed, couch, and air mattress had someone sleeping on it. The weather cooperated, so we got to spend a lot of time outside. Our son had a great time sharing his slide and swing with his cousins. Grandpa brought Read more »

Visit to Chris’s family

We spent the weekend visiting Chris’s parents. We spent Saturday at the zoo, where our son had fun seeing all the animals. He also enjoyed playing with Grandma and Grandpa, and all the fun toys at their house (not to mention getting to stay up late and eat cake for dessert). He was so tired out by the end of the trip Read more »

Spring Projects

We spent the weekend taking advantage of the nice weather by working on some spring projects out in the yard. Since we moved last fall, we had to build a new outdoor enclosure for our pet turtles. We also built a raised garden bed. Our son was very happy to help out his dads, and we’re all looking forward to planting Read more »

Short weekend visit with good friends

We had a full house this weekend—our good friends from grad school came to visit from out of town, along with their two daughters and two dogs. We always like cooking for guests, so we grilled a big meal for everyone, and got to enjoy eating outside on the deck since we finally had a warm, sunny weekend. After dinner, Read more »

Dog and Chicken Sitting

This past weekend we helped dog (and chicken) sit for friends of ours. They had a wedding to go to, so we stopped by their house to feed and look after their dogs. They also have a chicken coop with eight chickens, so we had to feed them and collect their eggs (we got to take home the eggs we collected!). In the picture, Seth Read more »

Home brewing on a rainy weekend

It was a cold and rainy weekend here, so we decided to work on some indoor projects. We recently started home brewing hard apple cider, so we tried a couple new recipes on Saturday. We set up a small batch of acerglyn (kind of like wine, but made with maple syrup instead of grape juice). We also started a batch of Read more »

Family visit and house repairs

We had a busy week—Seth’s dad and stepmom stopped by in the middle of the week. They were on a road trip to drop off some alpaca wool from their farm at a fiber co-op in Massachusetts. We went to a local brewpub for dinner and drinks. Then Chris’s parents arrived on Saturday to help us do some work on the Read more »

Trip to Washington, D.C.

We just got back from a weekend trip to Washington, D.C. We walked around the National Mall and explored some museums (we even got to see Dorothy’s ruby slippers in the Smithsonian!).
