We are a journalist and a home designer who have been together for nearly 20 years. A mutual friend introduced us, knowing we would fall in love, spend the rest of our lives together and start a family. She was mostly right. While we tried to have a family on our own, it wasn't to be. We came to realize our family was meant to come together in a different way. We work in New York City but our lives truly revolve around a magical beach town in Long Island where life is about surfing, fishing, and family.
Our home in Montauk is often a hub of activity, a through-stop for so many of our friends who have kids in search of a pool. The Montauk house has three bedrooms, so plenty of room for baby, wrap around decks and views of the ocean from afar. The beach and the bay are minutes away. We are blessed to live in a loving community of friends who keep up a constant stream of activities for the kids, and the adults, too, of course.
Kat cannot wait to have a child because she loves to do kid things herself. She counts the following pastimes among her favorite adult activities: visiting the Washington Zoo to see the baby pandas, scoping out dinosaur bones in the Natural History Museum, reading Harry Potter and watching any animated movie ("Finding Nemo" is a favorite). She grew up in a loving home in New Jersey. She started her career making sets for movies and television shows and now runs her own design firm, whose work is regularly celebrated in national design magazines. Kat is eager to share her love of life, sense of adventure, wisdom, humor and humility with a new addition to our already joyful family.
The only thing that makes James as excited as thinking about what Kat is going to be like as a Mom is the idea of being a Dad.
James grew up in Philadelphia and, unable to graduate college due to lack of funds, had to make it on his own. He now works at one of the world's biggest news organizations in the world, where he has traveled across the country and the globe covering the biggest stories. He has so much to share and teach to a new person on Earth.
