Our Story

We met and fell in love while we were both living in Colorado. Today, home is a small town on Long Island. We live in a large apartment close to the sea, with a safe garden area to play. Parks, a playground, and top ranked schools are nearby. The museums and everything else that is to be found in New York city are about an hour and a half away from home.

We love to travel and explore. There is a lot that we still want to see in the US and Europe, but in the meantime we’ve also visited some amazing places further away, including South Africa, Iceland, and Easter Island. This summer our ten year-old nephew from Italy came to visit us. He loves wildlife and nature, so we took a road trip through Florida. We saw the rockets at the Kennedy Space Center, alligators in the Everglades, and the coral reefs off the coast of Key Largo. We also enjoy hiking and Phil, especially, enjoys running. For something quieter we both enjoy cooking and baking, hanging out with friends and family and watching movies and TV shows. Dada is a huge fan of the Harry Potter books and movies.

This will be our first child, and we promise to bring them up with all our love in a supportive community of family and friends. At this stage in our career we don't have to be in the office every day, and we plan to use that flexibility to spend time with our family. Our parents taught us to love reading and learning, and both of us have followed childhood dreams and become teachers and scientists. We want to give the child all our support to help them find and follow their dreams in life.

About Dada

Dada was born and raised in southern Italy, the last of three children. She was a funny and spirited little girl and spent lots of time with her extended family. As a child she listened to her grandparents' stories by the fireplace and learned how to find crabs within the rocks by the beach from her older brother and how to wear make-up from her older sister. Today, she still enjoys the beach and remains very close to her family. She especially loves spending time with her wonderful nieces and nephews.

Dada left home for the first time when she went to college to pursue a childhood dream of becoming a scientist and curing diseases. Science took her to both the US and the UK, before settling down in a small town on Long Island with the love of her life, Phil. Dada is a university professor who teaches students and does research. With students and researchers in her laboratory, she studies what happens in our muscles when we damage them, and what goes wrong in diseases such as muscular dystrophy.

About Phil

Phil grew up in England, in a village south of London in the countryside. His mom and younger brother, who works on movies such as Harry Potter and the Lion King, still live there. His father passed away when he was in college.

Growing up Phil was a nerdy kid who loved swimming, and wasn't sure if he wanted to be an engineer, an astronomer, or an architect. He ended up studying physics and later astronomy in Cambridge, where he continued swimming and competed for the university. He lived in Canada and Germany for a few years before moving to the US to start a job as an astronomy professor and researcher. Phil studies the formation of planets and black holes.

Phil is close to his mom and brother, who comes to visit most summers. He likes to relax by running, cooking, and watching TV shows and movies with Dada.
