Our niece, Avelina came to visit us recently. This gave us a good excuse to take her to all of the great activities Raleigh has available! Her favorite was Marbles Kids Museum. They had tons of rooms set up where kids could play and learn. She particularly like playing outside with the musical instruments. Uncle Casey showed her how to tap the bells to play a song. It was a great experience!
Last week was our first week on Adoptimist!
Joe and I have actually been in the adoption process a long time now. We joined an open adoption agency in May of 2015 called the Independent Adoption Center. We were excited to work with them, because they specialized in open adoptions, and were counselling based. That meant that some of our fees would go to providing potential birth mothers really good counselling services for free. Deciding to pursue adoption is a very large, important, and brave decision for any birth mother, so we liked the idea of her having access to these types of services.
Unfortunately, after being with the agency almost 21 months, IAC abruptly closed their doors and filed for bankruptcy. While that was a set-back for Joe and I, we are excited to keep the search going. We joined Adoptimist, and are already pleased with the activity and conversations it has started! We both think this will be a blessing in disguise.
