A brief joy
This week we welcomed and said good bye to an infant foster placement. In a whirlwind of events, I spent an evening in the NICU, brought home a tiny bundle of joy, got 3 rough nights of sleep, did doctors appointments, social worker visits, and reunited them with their grandmother. It was both tough and joyful.
We learned that we can adjust extremely quickly, our kids are wonderfully patient and they are so excited to have a permanent new sibling.
It was also extremely painful to bond with a child and then have them move on with just an hours notice. It was a reminder that adoption can be painful. Not feeling in control or knowing what’s next is hard. This experience has taught us that we will need to work hard to support an expectant mother and grow the bond between them, our family, and their child.
