We grew up very differently and with different traditions. We did not let go of any of our traditions though; we just combined them. Ben grew up in Ohio in a Filipino family. His mom was always cooking traditional Filipino foods and always had enough to feed the neighborhood. With his three brothers and one sister, gatherings were loud and fun. Darcie’s parents divorced while she was young. They both remarried, and she has two brothers, one half-sister, and seven step-siblings.
We have very large families full of people who are excited for a new family member. Our favorite family tradition we created is what we do at Christmas. We open one gift on Christmas Eve and have a large meal with anyone who can come over. We have a table of ham, turkey, sweet potatoes, and stuffing. We also have a table with steamed rice, fried rice, and lumpia. Our favorite meals are all together with both sides of our family. We would love to add some new foods based on our new child’s heritage.
Our family has been blessed by adoption in many positive ways. We always dreamed of having two biological and two adopted children. We have three children, two biological sons and one adopted daughter. We could not imagine life without any of them. We are so excited to welcome another little girl or boy into our hearts and family. Darcie has a half-sister on her father’s side whom she met as an adult as she was placed for adoption as an infant. Our family was able to locate her, and the connection has been great for everybody. We love all of our children equally and have so much more love to offer.
We have a 4 bedroom, 3 bath home with 2 living rooms. Our home is set up to be very kid friendly and welcoming. One of the living rooms is an infant/ toddler playroom. It is designed for fun and learning at their own level. The second living room is a hang out family room with toys meant for older children as well. We have drums, guitars and a piano in our home. We encourage the children in our home to unplug from screen time by having so many other options. We have tons of art supplies and board games that we love playing together. We have a huge yard, split into 2 sections. One half is a playground park for daycare. The other is for our family and pets. We have a trampoline that is up almost year round. We have 5 ducks, 2 chickens and 2 rabbits that are very well socialized. Our mini farm
I grew up in California, I love the beach and the sun. I have always loved children and started babysitting at 12. I started working in preschools at the age of 16 running my own classroom. My life took a detour and I joined the Coast Guard, where I met my husband of now 19 years! I was meant to join the Coast Guard. I was only in for 4 years and got out when our oldest was 7 months old. I have been a stay at home parent since, and began running a home daycare. I still have a successful home daycare. My children have mom at home full-time and they have always had other children to socialize with in our home. I love watching children learn and grow. I love giving them the steps to become who they want to be while teaching them manners and lifeskills along the way. Every child is an individual, as it should be and they are loved for who they are.
I was born and raised in Ohio. A second generation Filipino whose parents migrated from the Philippines. I grew up with 3 older brothers and 1 younger sister. I spent a lot of time with my family together early in my youth playing sports, traveling to different places, and camping. After graduating from high school I joined the Coast Guard and retired with 23 years of service. I enjoyed my time in helping and rescuing people, traveling to different places around the country and world, and experience different cultures and people that helped me keep my mind open. My time in is also when I met Darcie. Recently celebrating our 19 year anniversary we hope to expand our family and continue our happy life together.
