We met online in 2014 and after some charming email banter about killer whales, we started dating. Meeting a bit later in life, we felt secure in ourselves, and the time to be together felt right. Our relationship grew quickly and easily.
Jesse proposed on Staten Island from a viewpoint overlooking Lower Manhattan. We married in the Summer of 2017, during a wonderful weekend in upstate NY. Our wedding was a joyful celebration of our love and life together with our loved ones from near and far. We managed and produced the whole wedding among friends and family; Kate’s mum baked the cake, her brother was responsible for hanging lights, and Jesse’s family provided bountiful decorations - it was a memorable testament to those that love and support us.
Early in our relationship, we talked about our wish to have children and grow our family. After some time, we realized it was going to be difficult to conceive naturally. We embarked upon IVF. Kate became pregnant, and devastatingly our baby girl died at 24 weeks. Our love for our baby girl and our longing to be parents led us to adoption. We want to create a loving family and feel that adoption is right for us. We are excited to be on our adoption journey we and hope to welcome a child into our hearts and home.
Our home is a beautiful New York brownstone townhouse in a diverse and dynamic Brooklyn neighborhood. We were attracted to the lovingly restored original features of the house. We bought our home with family in mind, and it’s the perfect space to grow with children.
As city dwellers, we’re fortunate to have a garden in our backyard. It’s inspired by English country gardens. We’ve planted birch trees, roses, and honeysuckle. We hope to grow herbs and vegetables to add to our recipes. Self-sufficiency is our dream goal!
Cooking and the kitchen is central to our relationship and our home. We love to try new recipes and experiment with new ingredients. Kate is a lifelong vegetarian, and Jesse is a meat-eater, so our cuisine is quite eclectic! Jesse is a great grill and open-fire chef. We love to have friends and their children over for a summer feast on the desk. We look forward to sharing our love of food and trying new things with a little one.
About Kate, by Jesse
I met Kate in the spring of 2014. She was from the fashion world, and with me being quite fashionable, we were a perfect match. Joking aside, I quickly saw that Kate is a kind, generous and beautiful person.
Kate is a gifted artist and designer. She is passionate about her work, creating and nurturing young talent. She is focused on creating change to make the fashion industry more sustainable for the sake of future generations.
Kate has a calm and steady demeanor that attracts people to her. She has a confident laugh that fills a room. Children trust her and are enamored by her authenticity and genuine interest in what they have to say. Our friend’s children adore her and light up whenever she visits them.
Our marriage is one based on trust and mutual respect. We make decisions together and I trust Kate’s judgment. She always seems to know what to say to comfort others. She navigates difficult decisions and stressful situations with strength and grace. She is patient and reminds me to be the same. Kate is also incredibly funny and always knows how to make me laugh.
She is always up for a day trip, whether it’s hiking, roaming the beach, or exploring an upstate town. She is also content with spending a day at home with a good book, pottering around in the garden, drawing, or baking something delicious. She has so many wonderful qualities and interests to share with a child, and I can’t wait to see her become a mum.
About Jesse by Kate
Jesse is an extremely kind and gentle person. He has supported and held me through the most difficult times. He is strong and resolute in his love. Together, we share a strong partnership.
Early on, Jesse and I started talking about building a family together. He has so many qualities that will make him a beautifully loving father. He meets children where they are and is filled with wonder. While initially sometimes shy, Jesse has a silly side and a quirky sense of humor; he makes me laugh all the time. At home, we often sing and dance. He is always game to dress up for fun - full costume, wig and makeup, and not just at Halloween!
Our nephews and nieces love playing with their Uncle Jesse. He is always ready to jump in a lake, leap into an imaginary world or just play along. He’s great at games and puzzles - he has a brain that can store information and work things out. He’s also very handy and fixes and builds things around the house. I know he will create amazing hideaways and playthings for the child.
Jesse is passionate - this is evident in his ability to facilitate change in his career in economic development. The circumstances can be challenging, but he pushes through.
When he starts a task, he spends time researching and teaching himself everything he needs to know; he’s thorough and committed. I know this will translate into the kind of dad he will be! Jesse is devoted and loyal, and when he commits to a child, he will love and care for them with his whole heart.
