Keri and Nickolai- looking to begin our parenthood journey through adoption

Hello!

We are Nickolai and Keri from the Richmond hills in the SF East Bay!

We met at a movie meetup on a rainy Sunday evening in December 2008. Nickolai noticed Keri sitting three seats away and decided to get her attention by making what he hoped were funny comments about the previews. It actually worked and just over two years later, we got married at an outdoor service in front of Yosemite Falls.

We love the outdoors, which is why we decided to build our futures in the Bay Area before we even met. We feel lucky to have found each other and built a life together and we can't wait to be parents. We're honored to be among the families you are considering.

Thank you for taking the time to read our profile – we look forward to meeting you and answering any of your questions as you go through this process.

Who We Are

We love exploring national parks, local museums, and hiking, camping and kayaking together.

Keri was raised in Wisconsin and Michigan, and can’t wait to continue the tradition of family road trips with a big cooler full of picnic supplies, to take our child fishing and golfing and to pick blueberries like she did growing up.

We look forward to mountain and lakeside camping trips, visiting Nickolai’s family in Colorado and Panama, making pelmeny (Siberian dumplings), baking cookies, and going to concerts, museums, and playdates. Most of all, we’re excited to discover the world through our child’s eyes and all they will become.

Adoption Diary

Rediscovery

It’s been a while, but recently we’ve been venturing out a little further than before, reconnecting with both friends and places in our area we loved and missed. With our jobs requiring more in person contact since last summer, we’d done most everything social outdoors aside from some wonderful museums. The last two weekends we headed back to a concert, dim sum, and Keri finally took a glass flameworking class long deferred. We met our friends and their fast growing 18 mo. and 3 1/2 year old sons for an action packed mini-golf day, and got the garden ready for spring flowers. With the exception of working with molten glass, we’re looking forward to sharing all of it with our future child and any extended family by adoption.

I Got the Sun in the Morning and the Moon at Night

I’m lingering over coffee looking out the window at another sunny day, still sleepy and trying to motivate for the morning workout before starting work. Bubbles would have had me out the door at 7 am for a walk and we miss that and him. Someday there will be another wiggly, kid loving boxer to be my alarm clock- but for now we’re focusing our energies on filling our hearts and home with the sounds of a child and pitter patter of little human feet.

The title of this post is from a musical theatre song- occupational hazard for me (Keri) as a singer/teacher/nonprofit arts person. I never know who has sung something on the radio, but random song fragments pop up in everyday conversation. I hope all of you going through this process find some sunshine and hope in your hearts today and light to guide you through the tough times.
