Shoutout to my ancestors and can’t wait to hear about yours…
Check out this pic, it’s Dorothy and Alfred (Keisha’s paternal grandparents.) I never got a chance to meet them, they both died before I was born. I still feel their influence in my life. They lived in Kansas City, MO and raised six kids together. They had rent parties, party parties and loved their community. They welcomed people from all walks of life into their home and not because it was some political act, but because they cared about people. They saw family as an expansive construct that included all kinds of relationships. These are the values I’ve had the privilege of receiving from them through my father’s influence and I hope to pass acceptance, love and making space for you and baby in our family.
