We met in college - we were both on the track team at the University of Chicago. But Victor was a mid-distance runner and Moriah was a pole-vaulter - which means we didn’t meet on the track. We met in the library, where Victor jokes that Moriah “fell for him.” The story goes like this:
Early one morning in the library, Victor was asleep in a chair, having pulled an all-nighter writing a term paper. Moriah came in to print out an essay for her class. But when she went to sit down in a rolling chair, she completely missed it, falling to the ground. She looked up to see Victor, who, like a true gentleman, was laughing hysterically. And of course, she couldn’t help but join him laughing! That was just the beginning of us becoming best friends. Two years later, we got married. We celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary this past summer.
Moriah has known that she wouldn’t be able to have biological children since she was 16 years old. When she became friends with Victor and told him this, he said she was perfect the way she was. Then we got married and began our adoption journey together.
Our daughter, Amaya, is adopted. We regularly hang out with families who have also adopted children. Moriah also has family members who have placed children for adoption.
