Seamus and I met 10 years ago while working for the same company in Boston, MA. We had an instant connection and quickly realized that we also shared many of the same interests - mainly spending time outdoors. You will see that most of our pictures are of us outside - camping, skiing, biking, hiking and swimming.
Seamus grew up in Boston and Kate moved to Boston after attending college in Providence, RI.
We dated for several years and were married at Boston University, in the chapel where Seamus's parents were married 35 years prior. To be able to get married in the same chapel as Seamus' parents is very special to us.
We later moved to New York to be closer to Kate's family and start a family of our own. When that wasn't possible due to the fertility issues, we set our sights on adoption.
We recently adopted a rescue dog, Nellie. She is very special to us. She is a one year old pointer and is very good with young children.
We live in a lovely three bedroom house in New York. Our favorite features of our home are the wood burning fireplace and our screened in porch. We enjoy snuggling up by the fire with our dog Nellie in the winter. In the summer, we sit in our screened in porch and have movie night.
Our home is very close to the beach, which is perfect for us because we love to swim and kayak. Seamus has transformed our home through his projects. He created a large buffet table from a washed up boating dock and is currently refurbishing a bench that landed on the beach during a storm.
Our home is also our office, as we both permanently work from home. Neither of us will be returning to offices when they reopen. This arrangement will allow both us to be very involved in our child's upbringing. Kate's parents will also be assisting with day-to-day childcare.
Our home and community is very special to us because we are near Kate's family. Both of our families are supporting us in our adoption journey and it is a comfort to have Kate's family are close by. We spend a lot of time at Kate's parents bungalow (small house on a dock in the bay) and their boat - Shark Boat. You can see a picture of the Share Boat in our Album. Let's just say it is a favorite among the kids in our neighborhood.
We live in close knit community and there are several parks nearby, one only a block from our house. There are lots of families and children nearby and the public school district is excellent.
Our community is unique because it feels suburban but is actually in New York City. The neighborhood is made up of mostly single family homes and there is plenty of space for outdoor activities. However, we are only a short ferry ride away from Manhattan, which is very important to us. We want our child to be able to enjoy the diverse cultural and educational opportunities that NYC has to offer.
Kate grew up in a loving family, the oldest of three girls. Kate's family are excited to welcome an adoptive child into the family.
Kate's is very close to her family, who all live nearby. Both her parents are retired and intend to help with childcare. Kate's Dad was a NYC firefighter and her mom stayed home with the kids, but later worked in medical coding. Kate's sisters are both going to school for nursing.
Kate is an avid reader and her favorite books are A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, Pillars of the Earth and Trinity. Kate is also a great cook and her favorite recipes include stuffed mushrooms and several from the Great British Bake Off.
Traits that will make Kate a great parent include sense of family and warm nature.
Seamus was also born into a loving family, the oldest of two boys. Seamus' brother and fiancé live nearby and Seamus' parents live in Maine. Kate and Seamus enjoy visiting Seamus' family in Maine - visiting the sights and eating lots of seafood.
Seamus enjoys spending time outside with Kate and Nellie. He likes to kayak and is a volunteer at the local kayak park in the summer. Seamus instructs patrons on how to kayak and the important of water safely.
A favorite past time of Seamus', is home projects. Seamus always has a project going and recently refurbished a bench that washed up on the beach.
Traits that will make Seamus a great parent are his patience and creativity.
