Our first date was in June of 2013 at a coffee shop in New York City. What was supposed to be a short coffee date turned into a long dinner, then a walk through the city, and a nightcap of frozen yogurt. When we reminisce about that first meeting now, we both remember immediately getting the feeling that we had known each other much longer than one night.
It didn’t take long for both of us to realize that we share similar stories and common values: openness, creativity, and family. Our relationship took off, and in July of 2015, we were married in a small ceremony surrounded by family and close friends.
As parents, we can’t wait to spend time together as a family: cooking, game nights, movie marathons, vacations, and reading our favorite books together at bedtime. We look forward to teaching our child a love for reading and animals, a respect for others, and an exploration in creativity.
We are committed to raising our children bilingual, teaching both English and Spanish (Javi is fluent in both). It is of the utmost importance to us to expose our children to people of different races, cultures and religions.
Our home is located in New York’s Hudson Valley. The house is a spacious four bedroom with a huge backyard and access to nearby parks and trails. The surrounding Hudson Valley is steeped in history, natural beauty, and culture. We love to go out and explore everything it has to offer. Also, being in close proximity to New York City, we look forward to experiencing special family moments at places like The Museum of Natural History, The Bronx Zoo, and Broadway theaters.
We are both incredibly lucky to have a tight-knit and supportive family. Grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins and close friends are constant fixtures in our lives. Michael’s immediate family lives only minutes away. Javi’s parents live in Florida, but we visit every opportunity we can and call, Facetime, or text daily.
Some of our most cherished traditions include: gathering as a family for Sunday dinner, annual trips to Disney World with Javi’s sister, and celebrating the holidays in Puerto Rico with extended family. We look forward to bringing a baby into each of these special moments.
"Michael is probably the most determined and passionate person I have ever met. When he sets his mind to something, he will move mountains to achieve it. Michael was a kindergarten teacher who had a strong passion for cooking and baking, so he left his job and followed his dream of pursuing a culinary degree. After graduation (and a lot of hard work), he has risen from being a baker to being a manager of a successful restaurant and bakery. In his spare time, he likes to quilt, crochet, and learn new recipes from different cultures. Michael is his best self when he’s interacting with our nieces and nephew. He knows how to connect with them and speak their language. I know that he will make an amazing dad and I am proud to call him my husband." - Javi
"Javi has the superpower of being able to make you feel comfortable when you first meet him. He’s an open book, and what I love about him is that he wears his heart on his sleeve and always tries to make others laugh. He has always had a passion for all things television and film. He followed his entertainment dreams and now works in the television industry as a Senior Marketing Producer for a major network. He loves comic books (his favorite superhero is Thor), and working with his hands around the house, including painting, wood-working, and DIY projects. My favorite thing about Javi is that he doesn’t take himself too seriously and isn’t afraid to be playful and silly. He’s going to be in his element as a father." - Michael
