Loving NY Couple Hoping to Start Our Family

Hello! We are Tom & Joanna and we are thankful that you are taking the time to get to know us a bit better.

When we first discussed the dream of our family, adoption was a path that we felt drawn to. After trying to conceive for many years and facing some heartbreaking losses, we are excited to start our adoption journey to make our dreams of our family come true.

Who We Are

We met in 2009 on the dance floor at a local restaurant in our town. (Tom has some amazing moves!) We struck up a conversation and started dating soon after. From the beginning it was clear that we had so much in common and that we truly complemented each other—the yin to each other’s yang! We were engaged 5 years later and got married in 2015 with a massive, weekend-long celebration with all of our family and friends at a mountain resort in upstate New York.

When we discussed the dream of our family, adoption was a path that we felt drawn to from the very beginning. We both envisioned a large family and knew that we wanted adoption to play a role in building it. After trying to conceive for many years and facing some heartbreaking losses, we are excited to start our adoption journey to make our dreams of our family come true.

A Quick Trip to Upstate NY

This weekend we made a quick trip to upstate NY to visit Tom’s parents at their house in the Catskills and help them with some projects around their home.  The weekend’s tasks included tiling their laundry room and refreshing their front porch with a fresh coat of paint on the door (c/o Tom) and some new planters (c/o Joanna).

We are so lucky to have this house upstate to visit when we want a change of scenery!  Whenever we go up to visit I try to find some new places for us to check out.  On our last trip upstate, Joanna took Tom’s mom to nearby Hudson, NY to explore local shops and we found a great local farmers market.  This trip, we went into Athens, checked out an awesome local wine shop and spent some time on the riverfront. Joanna also found an amazing plant nursery near their home to buy all of the flowers for around their home.

We ultimately would love to have a vacation home of our own upstate that we can visit on the weekends.  The ultimate dream is to have an old farm that we can fix up!

Oh how we Missed Live Music!

Over the weekend, we went to our first concert since pre-pandemic! We LOVE going to live shows and while we tried to substitute going to live shows with LISTENING to or livestreaming shows it just wasn’t the same. This past weekend, the lead singer from one of our favorite bands, The Wood Brothers, was coming through town on a solo venture and we jumped at the chance to see him! We took two of our good friends from our neighborhood and had such an amazing time.

We have a few more shows on the horizon in the fall—We are seeing Pearl Jam at a festival in September (a bucket list concert which we cannot wait for) as well as Colin Haye, and last but not least Dr. Dog in Philadelphia with Joanna’s sister and brother in law. That will be an extra special show as it is one of the last show’s of Dr. Dog’s last tour ever and they are one of Joanna’s absolute favorites—she’s seen them in concert nearly 15 times!

We couldn’t be more excited that we are able to attend these shows again and look forward to the day when we can share our love of music with our children!
