We live in Brooklyn, New York, and have been together for thirteen years and happily married for seven of them. We met in 2007 playing for the same softball team. We developed an immediate connection and have been inseparable since.
We believe that every child deserves unconditional love, support, and guidance to grow. As an interracial couple, we’ve always valued the strengths and differences that every individual brings, and strive to bring the best of both worlds together. We know that parents should be prepared and maintain structure, but also have to problem-solve, be flexible, and communicate well. We also think that life is fun and full of wonder and we would want our child to also experience these wonders. Life is an adventure full of unexpected surprises, and should be enjoyed!
We live in an apartment in a quiet, green, and multicultural neighborhood. Our apartment has a great kitchen - we love to cook, and more importantly, to eat! There is a comfortable living room and a backyard we share with our neighbors. It is also home to our cuddly cat, Sneaker. Sneaker loves people, and is great with children.
We enjoy being part of a diverse and vibrant community in New York City. We are within a short walk of playgrounds, the Brooklyn Museum, Brooklyn Botanical Gardens, and Prospect Park which are all great places to spend time as a family. We volunteer at a food cooperative that offers fresh and healthy food to the community. We are also just a short subway ride from many cultural and artistic sites in Manhattan. We can’t wait to visit these places and so many more with a child.
Drew reads a lot of books and looks forward to reading many with our child. He also plays piano and loves music. Maki will definitely be the “hobby” dad who spends hours with our child building and fixing things. We can’t wait to welcome a child into our home so he or she can experience all of the things we enjoy doing as a couple in addition to everything that is of interest to them. We will always encourage our child to be his/her own person and will support them and their dreams.
Maki is extraordinarily considerate and thoughtful. He cares deeply about his family and friends, and always thinks of them first. He is kind and caring, and performs many selfless actions for those in his life. He has a great sense of humor, is adventurous, and open-minded. He makes spending our hours, days and years together so wonderful and easy. He speaks three languages: English, Thai, and Japanese! He is a problem-solver and a helper. I feel so lucky that he is my husband and best friend, and I love him more than words could express.
Drew is loving, supportive, and caring. He has a strong sense of community, connecting with and supporting others. He helps to balance me with his love for cooking, everything outdoors, naps, and enjoying the simple things in life. I am so grateful for all the experiences and joys that Drew has brought into my life and for all his love and support. Drew is wonderful with kids of all ages and I have no doubt that he will be a great dad. I have learned so much from Drew - he’s truly the best teacher, friend, and husband that anyone can have.
