Drew and Maki

To Someone Special,

We are Maki and Drew. We are so grateful you are opening your heart to the possibility of adoption. Sometimes the path of life takes unexpected turns and people need help and support from others. We are here to offer you that and so much more.

We hope this will give you an idea of who we are and how much your child will be loved and cherished by us, our family, and friends. We wish you love and support through your journey, which we hope to be a part of. We honor and thank you for your bravery and strength, and are grateful our paths have crossed.

We are loving, respectful, and considerate, and together we’ve tackled many challenges. We laugh a lot and try to grow from our experiences. We deeply value our relationships with family and friends in New York and across the country and globe.

We enjoy spending time with friends and family, whether it is sharing a meal, playing games, or just hanging out. We are active and spend a lot of time outdoors at the park or the beach. We also ride bicycles, hike, and play tennis. Lots of our friends and family have young children now, so we enjoy spending time with them, feeding, reading to, and playing with all of the children. The parents love taking a break and we love the ”jobs” they give us!

After witnessing family and friends experience the blessing of children, we are eager to build our family through adoption. We have plenty of room in our lives for our family to grow and endless amounts of love, support, and security to offer a child. We have the support from our family and friends who look forward to being there with us as we raise our child.

We tremendously value you. We will communicate clearly and honestly, and honor where you are as we begin to work together. We believe it is important for adopted children to know their roots. We are open to maintaining communication between you and your child, known as an open adoption, if you desire it.

We are honored and thankful to be considered. We wish you love and support through your process, and invite you to contact us any time to learn more about us and to give us a chance to connect with you.

Who We Are

We live in Brooklyn, New York, and have been together for thirteen years and happily married for seven of them. We met in 2007 playing for the same softball team. We developed an immediate connection and have been inseparable since.

We believe that every child deserves unconditional love, support, and guidance to grow. As an interracial couple, we’ve always valued the strengths and differences that every individual brings, and strive to bring the best of both worlds together. We know that parents should be prepared and maintain structure, but also have to problem-solve, be flexible, and communicate well. We also think that life is fun and full of wonder and we would want our child to also experience these wonders. Life is an adventure full of unexpected surprises, and should be enjoyed!

Adoption Diary

Love and Partnership

Love makes the world go round. This morning, this photo from last summer caught our eye. We were at the beach with friends and they snapped a photo of us strolling on a rainy afternoon. We are coming up on fifteen years together. The year we started dating (2007), Rihanna’s “Umbrella” was the big song of the summer and we really connect with it.

When the sun shines
we’ll shine together
Told you I’ll be here forever
Said I’ll always be a friend
Took an oath and I’ma stick it out to the end
Now that it’s raining more than ever
know that we’ll still have each other
You can stand under my umbrella.

We are blessed and grateful to have so much love and partnership in our life. We’ve experienced up and downs in our families and lives, but always have each other to talk, rest a weary head on a shoulder, or hold an umbrella over our head in the rain. Although Valentine’s is tomorrow, we started a little early with a stroll through the snow and an afternoon movie. Hopefully, like Rihanna, we will have another generation coming soon!

Winter Joy and Energetic Boys

Winter is in full effect in New York, which means…indoor fun. Here is “Uncle” Maki pitching in to keep this energetic young guy busy up until bed time. We love pitching in to help our friends out with their kids as often as we can.

Thank You for Visiting Our Adoption Profile

We want to thank you for considering us as adoptive parents for your child.

We truly appreciate your kindness and strength and look forward to hearing from you.
