We met in the restaurant industry back in our college days. Our friendship eventually got closer and we started dating. 4 years later in 2008, we tied the knot in our hometown.
Both of us ended up going back to school to further our education so we waited awhile to start a family. Traditional adoption has always been in conversation with each other as we prepared to one day grow our family.
When we were married for 5 years, we decided to begin our journey into parenthood. We had an early miscarriage a few months in, but were incredibly blessed the very next cycle to get pregnant naturally with our son Keaton who is now 6 years old. When Keaton was 2.5, we started trying for baby #2 only to go on to have another early miscarriage, followed by another late first trimester loss. We then saw a reproductive endocrinologist who diagnosed Christen with premature ovarian aging. We honestly didn’t think we would be able to get pregnant naturally, but in after a lot of tears, prayer, meds, and supplements, 8 cycles later we got pregnant with our precious daughter Kamryn. She was born in December 2017, & Christen got her tubes tied due to the many pregnancy issues.
We were over the moon, until one night our daughter at 10.5 months old passed suddenly and unexpectedly in her sleep from unknown causes & was determined to be SIDS.
Our lives were forever changed & we were devastated to say the least. She was so deeply loved & will be forever missed. After counseling and research on the subject of adoption, we were able to match privately with 4 embryos. We did a frozen embryo transfer back in July 2019 only to again miscarry a baby boy at 10 weeks.
We knew immediately that domestic adoption was the way God was leading our family, & we returned the other 3 embryos to our donor for them to find another family.
We know that these babies will never be able to be replaced, but we continue to have such a strong desire to grow our family.
We have been home study approved and active with our agency since March 2020. We are also open to working privately with our attorney and the expectant family if they are not comfortable with using an agency.
We are praying for a rainbow & pray that we will be able to grow our family with the blessing of another child. The heartache we have experienced is undeniable, but our desire to have another child counties to remain the same. We are trusting in God’s direction for our family. We have so much love to give!!
Family and our children are our world. We are both very involved in our son’s life. Christen is a part-time working Mom so has good flexibility to volunteer at Keaton’s school, go on field trips, & make sure that he is doing well academically. Nathan’s schedule is great also as he works M-Th and occasionally rounds in the hospital on the weekends. We feel that our ability to co-parent well has nurtured our little guy to be such a sweet, thoughtful, social, & smart boy. We pray to be able to have the chance to contribute these attributes into another child’s upbringing.
We are a very active family. We are always outside. Health and wellness is very important to us. We love going to the beach 1-2 times a year, going on walks & hikes as a family, TN vols football, exercising, & playing baseball & games with our son. ❤️❤️❤️
Our home is everything to us. We moved into our house in 2016. It is a spacious home with plenty of room for play and relaxing. We live in a very safe and quiet neighborhood with children of all ages. We have the best neighbors anyone could ask for. We have a fenced in backyard with the playset, a basketball goal, swings, and a nice private front yard. We enjoy spending time outside on our deck or screened in porch when the weather is nice.
I enjoy a lot of things like working on the house, golf, snowboarding, listening to music, and coaching… But hanging with my family is by far my favorite thing to do. I try my best to live in the moment and be the best husband, father, and person that I can be. I hope to teach my children to grow up with a strong sense of character and to always treat other people with respect.
What I love about Nathan: by Christen
“Nathan is such a hard worker and provider for us! He is constantly building or fixing something in our home. He completely gutted and renovated our old house along with his dad and PaPaw. He has a big kid! He is a very involved father and husband; he shows we mean the world to him! He is a deep thinker and I analyze is all options before making a decision. He’s very compassionate and a friend to all. He will talk for hours to any stranger! He is the rock of our family and my best friend!”
I enjoy exercising, anything outdoors, warm sunny days, and spending time with my friends and family! I absolutely love being a mother. I have been fortunate to be able to work part-time and be at home with both of our children most days while they were babies. My parenting style is very loving and affectionate with constant hugs and cuddles. We are always laughing and being silly. I strive to teach our children respect and the love of Christ. We are very open with our son about most things and respect his insight and opinions. I am looking forward to adding another child into our family!
What I love about Christen: by Nathan
“Christen is an amazing wife and mother. She is the glue that holds our family together. She manages the house and almost every aspect of our lives. I honestly don’t know what I would do without her. She is supportive and compassionate. She is kind and thoughtful. She is fair and gentle when it comes to discipline. She is a great communicator. She is full of love and shares it with everyone she meets. She is resilient, strong, and probably the most genuine person that I know. Being a mother comes naturally to her and she is awesome at it. Our son adores her and so do I.” -Nathan
