Colby and Latika met in 2015 thanks to a dating site. They really hit it off from the start. She wanted to go fishing, but because the local bate shops were closed and it was raining, she told Colby to dig for worms in his backyard with her. Neither of them caught any fish that day, but they caught something even greater!
Together they have a 3.5 year old named Hunter, a rescued Shepherd mix named Scout, a Puggle named Pluto, a cat named Cat, three ferrets (Lila, Olive, Sweet Pea) and a rat named Remy. They believe that animals are family too and are raising Hunter to have a love and an overall kindness towards all creatures.
They enjoy spending quiet nights indoors, or out by the fire when its warm. Hunter loves exploring the backyard and helping pick fruit from their various trees and bushes.
A typical Sunday is spent at Pop Pop's, playing with cousins and watching football (Go Bills). They have continued many family traditions such as visiting the cemetery and Botanical Gardens every Easter, and visiting family in Ohio for the Fourth of July.
Promises from Us to You
We are so grateful that you are considering us to become a part of your story. Should we be the family that you choose, we promise to:
- Love your child unconditionally, that is, without reservation.
- Encourage, trust and respect your child for who they are and who they will become. As we build a family, we will create a home that is filled with laughter, learning and compassion.
- Raise your child in a community of loving and supportive family and friends.
- Work together. With you, with our children, with their teachers, and with anyone else who is part of the team helping to shape these young people. When our children treat each other with kindness and respect, we all benefit. Therefore, it is in the best interest of our children and ourselves to work together. When you come to us with concerns, we promise to do our best to listen, to be open minded, to not get defensive, and to work together with you for our child. We promise to remember that we are the same.
We live in a beautiful cozy cape cod situated on 2 acres at the end of a very private village lane. We are 1 of 2 houses located on the street. Our yard has apple, pear, mulberry and cherry trees; along with grape vines, blueberry bushes, raspberry bushes, rhubarb and asparagus!
Our home consists of 1 bath, 3 bedrooms, and a beautiful Florida room/ sun porch which we’ve converted into a playroom.
We live within walking distance of a library, two parks and the Elementary/Middle/High School. While our town only has one street light we are about 10 minutes away from a larger city that has all of our local shopping needs (Walmart, Target, Tops, etc.).
Hunter’s previous teacher has often referred to our home as a “cool cup of calm.”
(About Colby By Latika)
When I met Colby I was astounded by his honesty. He was a “I want you to know the good, the bad and the ugly” right away. I appreciated being able to learn about him. And his honesty about him as a person was a breath of fresh air.
He is incredibly smart and constantly teaching me things about the machines he works on at work. And in terms of work, I don’t think I’ve met anyone who goes above and beyond in terms of their job. Working 50 hours a week, and still coming home to find time to spend with his family is something that will never be lost on me.
During our home study I was asked to describe him and I honestly couldn’t imagine a better person to raise a child with. He is an amazing dad to Hunter, as well as an outstanding brother, son, uncle and friend.
I really cannot see myself doing this with anyone else.
