Matt & Todd

We promise to raise a kind & compassionate child in a home where differences and diversity are celebrated.

Thank you for considering the gift of adoption and us as dads. We are Matt and Todd. Growing up we both felt uncomfortable sharing our whole selves with those around us. So as parents we will create a home where differences, diversity and self-expression are celebrated. We’re comfortable with whatever level of openness you’d like to have and will remain flexible allowing you to take the lead in defining our relationship after adoption.

We met five years ago while living in Washington, DC through our involvement with LGBT sports. On our first date, we escorted a drag queen in a pageant, dressed as Thing 1 and Thing 2 from Dr Seuss’s The Cat In the Hat. Yes - that happened. Funny story. We’d gladly tell you more about it. We instantly connected on our values of family, friends, communities, and fitness.

Why Todd is Special (written by Matt)
Todd has focused his career on serving communities in need. His huge heart is one of the first things I fell in love with. Todd works as a nurse helping patients recover from addiction. He is the most patient person I know. He’s from Pennsylvania and easily convinced me that Pittsburgh would be a great place for us to raise our family. Todd loves language and culture, has lived in Mexico and Brazil, and speaks Spanish and Portuguese. Todd’s heart, patience and passion for culture are going to make him a great dad.

Why Matt is Unique (written by Todd)
Matt embraces life more passionately than anyone I know. I love being with Matt each day, observing him lift up everyone around him with his positive outlook, huge smile and Southern charm. Matt is originally from Memphis, Tennessee and now works as a researcher at a global tech company. My family loves him more than they love me, and I get it. I can’t wait to see him encouraging our child. It’ll be his best role yet.

Our Family Values...
Perhaps more than anything our commitment to family brought us together. Together we have 3 siblings and 9 nieces and nephews - all excited about our adoption. Spending time together is a priority for us. We love drinking coffee on our front porch, jogging through Frick Park, and watching movies cuddled on the couch with all our pets.

We promise to encourage a sense of curiosity about our community and the world. We strongly believe that every child is a gift and will embrace a child of any race or ethnic background. As parents, we will take active steps to connect our child to their culture.

Thank you for taking the time to read about us and our dream of growing our family.

Who We Are

We met in 2013 in Washington, DC. We were both asked by our LGBT sports teams to escort a local drag queen through a fundraiser dinner event. We showed up an hour before the event to get into our costumes and had fallen in love with one another by the end of the night. Since then we have loved being together through good times and challenges. We have grown a lot since 2013, having moved three times, both made major career changes, and continued being the best sons, uncles and brothers we can be. Currently our life together is all we have worked for, minus having a child. We love our work, our pets, and our home. We are overflowing and we can't wait to share it all!

Adoption Diary

First snow of the season

Here’s our snow covered house and yard during the first snow of the season.  We ended up getting a lot more than what was predicted, but it sure is pretty.  There pic came out dark but it’s mainly bc the snow is coming down so hard.

Remembering my father

I spent this chilly November Sunday morning with my mom in Uniontown. We were back at our home church, Calvary United Methodist, for a service honoring the members who have passed away in the last year, which includes my dad. It was great to remember him in a place where he gave so much time, energy and heart. He loved Calvary and his Calvary family, whether on the softball field or in the kitchen for a fundraiser dinner, he was always there with a smile. He loved everyone equally, and always had energy to give to others. We all love you and miss you very much, dad. I look forward to sharing memories of him with his grandchild. (Todd)
