Our adventure together began over 19 years ago. We met in 2000 while we were attending SUNY Potsdam. We had several history classes together and both attended a study abroad trip to London. Not many college kids love history so we are glad we found each other! We bonded over history, museums, food and travel during our time in London and we’ve been together ever since! After graduation we moved to Washington, DC for graduate school and we were married on a beautiful fall day in 2005. We both have successful careers in a large property management company and enjoy working together!
Our lives have been touched by adoption in many ways. Both of our grandfathers, Erin’s paternal aunt and several cousins, Russell’s childhood friend and one of our close friends have all been adopted. With adoption being so prevalent in our lives, we knew from the very beginning that we wanted to build our family through adoption!”
Family is everything to us! We are lucky to have both of our siblings living nearby with their families. They can’t wait to have a little nephew or niece to dote on. Since they live close by, we get to spend lots of time with them, our nieces and nephew. That means lots of pool time, game nights, cookouts and sleepovers!
Russell’s parents live in upstate NY but visit us several times a year and cannot wait to have another grandchild to love! We visit them each fall to pick apples and visit cider mills. We also spend Christmas with them each year. We are close with Russell’s aunts, uncles and cousins and are lucky to have them in our lives.
Erin lost her mother when she was a little girl and was raised by her maternal grandmother with the help of Erin’s 4 aunts, 2 uncles and their spouses. She is very close with her aunts, uncles and cousins. Erin’s cousins live nearby too, which means we have frequent family get-togethers.
Our families get along really well and we all meet in NYC once or twice a year to sight see or go to a baseball game. We also host Thanksgiving every year and both of our families attend, we usually have around 25 people at our house and it is so much fun.
We love to travel! Whether it’s a short road trip or an overseas journey, we find joy in exploring new places, cultures, history and adventures. We also love to cook and entertain family and friends at our home.
We can’t wait to share our lives and explore the world with our future child.
We live in a very diverse area, with lots of culture, museums and fun things to do. We work in the city but love calling the country our home. Our child will have a wonderful education, we are lucky enough to live in a school district with Blue Ribbon Schools. We purchased our home because it is ideal for entertaining with large front and back yards, open floorplan, pool and outdoor pizza oven. Our home is the gathering place for family and friends We host a big Thanksgiving each year with both of our families. We also live near the Chesapeake Bay, which affords us beautiful places to hike, walk, bike, sail and explore.
From the first moment I met Erin, 19 years ago in college, I knew she was someone special and the girl I wanted to spend my life with. Erin, after only knowing me through friends for about a month asked me if I wanted to travel across the Atlantic Ocean with her for a study abroad trip about theatre; I had no interest in theatre but said SURE without hesitation.
I fell in love with Erin in London; her smile, her passion and her courage. To this day, Erin is the smartest person I have ever met. I see Erin as someone who carefully calculates every decision and does everything out of love, compassion and empathy for others.
Erin has always been a mother figure to her sister, as they lost their mother at a very young age. Erin had natural abilities to guide her sister, give her advice and be the “mother” neither of them had growing up. In Erin, I see someone who is already an amazing “mother” and will raise our future child with more love, passion and patience than the world has to offer.
Through my eyes, I see Erin as someone who has conquered life tragedies, accomplished advanced degrees while working full time, can work through any challenge and still has time to love the people in her life unconditionally.
Meet Russell, my best friend, love of my life and co-adventurer! He is the most selfless, hardworking and loving person I know. He is always 100% there for everyone in his life and is always the first person to lend a hand or ear to someone in need. He’s the best travel companion, because as an Eagle Scout, he is
prepared for any situation and always packs his sense of humor. I love him because he is my number one cheerleader, the hardest worker I know and inspires me every day. He always makes me laugh and helps me see the bright side of things.
He has a special bond with our nieces, nephew and Godchildren. He’s a big kid at heart and all the kiddos in our life call him ‘Funcle’ (the fun uncle)!
He is loyal and steadfast, after 19 years together I wouldn’t want anyone else by my side or to be the father of our future child. I cannot wait to start our journey to parenthood with him because he is going to be an amazing dad.
