We grew up about ten minutes from each other. Some of our family tried to set us up several times throughout high school, but neither of us were really interested in dating at the time. However, in college, we ended up running in to each other at a drag race. We started dating after that in August of 2009. We were married three years later on November 10, 2012. In 2015, Jason was diagnosed with cancer. He went through about six months of chemo and has thankfully been cancer free ever since. In 2016, we pursued fertility treatments as we knew that fertility would be an issue after the chemo. At that point in time, we found that Ellen was unable to carry a child. We prayed and prayed and prayed some more and truly felt at that time, that God was calling us to adopt.
What Being a Parent Means to Us
We believe that being a parent means creating a home where a child can play, learn, grow and most of all dream. Where he/she can laugh and cry and feel loved and supported through every step of life. Being a parent is raising a child to be kind, to work hard, and to help others. Teaching him/her about our faith and that with God all things are possible will be a vital role in our lives! We plan to be open and honest with our child about his/her adoption and to share that you loved him/her so much and you just wanted the best for him/her. We also plan to ensure that he/she knows who you are!! We know that being parents is a huge responsibility, but we also know that it would be an answered prayer for us. We are so excited to start this journey and hope and pray that you will choose us to help give this child a home.
We live in a rural community. Our home sits on eleven acres that hold the most beautiful sunrises. We live within a half an hour of all of our immediate family and within an hour of most of the extended family. Our community is small so it is kind of like a second family in itself.
We have three dogs. Hank is a three year old German Shepherd mix, Milly is a three year old Australian Shepherd mix, and Hemi is a two year old Springer Spaniel Mix. All three pups are very energetic and love to play, but are quick to cuddle up for a good movie. They are wonderful with all of our nieces and nephews and cannot wait to welcome their new brother/sister. We also have a cat Toby who is 5. She will also make a great sister. Last but not least we have ten chickens on our small family farm. We enjoy eating their fresh eggs often!
Jason is the youngest of four children. He is very close with his parents. He and his dad spend many evenings working in the garage together. We also love to go to Reds baseball games with all of the family or watch Buckeye games together. We have seven nieces and nephews on Jason’s side of the family. The boys are very active. We love to play whiffle ball with them, take them put putting on birthday dates, and play in their fort. The girls are lower key. We enjoy baking cookies with them and reading books. We truly cherish the memories and the time with each of them!
Ellen is the youngest of three children. She is very close with all of her family as well. Ellen enjoys working on sewing projects with her mom, shooting hoops with her dad and brother, and just shopping with her sister. We have six nieces and nephews on Ellen’s side of the family. The boys are younger so we love to read them books and look forward to spending more time with them as they grow. The girls love to come to our little farm and get the eggs out of the coop or play with the pups. We take them painting on birthday dates and have made some great memories!
