We met in June 2009 when Ryan volunteered as an usher at the theater Paul worked at as box office manager, and our first date was a Monday evening at a local brewery, an exhibit about the Titanic at the Science Museum, and a nice dinner in Uptown. We married on the fourth anniversary of our first date in 2013 and recently celebrated our first decade as a couple!
Paul and Ryan brought Channing home in January 2012, a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel who had been rescued from (we believe) a puppy mill in Arkansas. He has brought so much joy to our lives, even if he spends his entire day sleeping and cuddling!
We share a passion for arts and culture, with a mutual love for theater, music, film, books, and television. But we aren't pretentious - we enjoy compelling drama, be it a serious foreign film or a ridiculous argument between Real Housewives. And sometimes we just want reruns of The Golden Girls. Above all, we laugh together every day.
We became homeowners in 2014 and specifically looked for a family home, not just a starter house for a couple. Our child will have his or her own room in a split-level house with a home theater in the basement, a semi-open kitchen/dining/living room, and a yard near a creek that gets daily visits in the spring and summer from geese crossing the road!
Paul was born and raised in Fridley, Minnesota, by his parents, Cathy & Dan and Joe & Julie. He has a younger brother, Adam, and an older stepsister, Denise. Ever since he was young, Paul had a love of entertainment and performed in show choirs, plays, and musicals. He pursues a lifelong passion toward film by reviewing new releases for KSTP-TV’s Twin Cities Live, MyTalk 107.1, and his own podcast devoted to streaming television and movies. Paul greatly values physical and mental health, encouraging and inspiring others as a Weight Watchers meeting leader each Saturday.
Paul treasures the ability to have traveled around the world, spending time in France, England, Ireland, Italy, Spain, Poland, and Austria. At home, Paul enjoys cooking and baking, growing fresh vegetables and herbs in the yard, and reading recent popular novels.
Ryan loves Paul's enthusiasm, positivity, and motivation to succeed. He can't wait to see Paul's face light up every time he sees our child.
Ryan is a proud native of Cedar Falls, Iowa, and moved to the Twin Cities in 1999 to attend the University of Minnesota. Ryan’s favorite activities as a kid were to play piano and clarinet as well as recreate the sets he saw at the local community theater with his Legos and other building toys. Music and theater have always been important to Ryan and he would love to continue the family tradition of love for the arts.
Ryan works as a relationship manager in the retirement industry, and enjoys guiding clients in making decisions that will impact their employees’ financial retirement goals. He takes his job so seriously he attained three professional credentials, but it’s quite different than what he thought he would be doing when he graduated with a degree in theater. Ryan still occasionally performs and directs musical theater productions, but has found the greatest fulfillment in attending high school productions and providing constructive feedback to young artists on behalf of a local non-profit.
Paul loves Ryan's sense of humor and how he keeps the household organized, from paying bills, updating their calendar, or just making sure the furnace filter gets changed. He looks forward to seeing Ryan as a dad, encouraging our child to be socially aware and engaged in our community.
