To Someone Special, Hello!! We are two school teachers who promise to give love and affection for our child!
Greetings from Kristen & Jake,
We are the Gilkey's from Richmond, Virginia! We love to have a good time as we spend quality time with one another, friends and family. We were married in 2009 and are excited to celebrate our 10 year anniversary this summer. We are both special education teachers and love working with children. This also means that we are off together in the summer so we take many trips across the US, Canada and outside of the area. We both come from large families, 3 siblings on each side, and enjoy spending time with them when we can. We also love animals and music. Kristen has a bird and we keep chickens in our backyard as well. She also loves cooking, baking and doing preserves in the summertime. Her apple butter is the best around. Jake loves sports, soccer and basketball to be exact. He also likes to take on little home projects around the house. The most recent would be making a walking trail within our acre lot. He also plays the acoustic guitar for the church praise band as Kristen helps out with singing. We are both active in our church as we both teach in the youth department. 3 years ago, Jake was ordained as a deacon at our church and also serves on the hospital visitation team there. Please get in touch with us as we are eager to adopt!!

Who We Are
Our story starts in 2007. That is when we had our first date to a local church's night of music. We dated for almost two years until Jake proposed on Christmas Day in 2008 at his parents home. We were married in July of 2009 and settled down in a little house in Ashland, Va. Kristen was teaching and Jake was delivering paper products for a local supplier. Jake decided to go back to school to finish his degree which provided a better paying job. With the better pay we began trying to get pregnant, with no success. We went to different doctors to see what could be done. Nothing was ever found wrong, we just could not conceive. This began a very trying time in our marriage. We shed many tears for the children that we could not have. As we learned through counseling, it is a wound that we will always have. But we decided during this time that our purpose for our married was not simply to reproduce but to be content with what we were given. And we began to see some light when we started looking at adoption. The adoption process itself has been long and painful sometimes as well. But we have faith. And we are excited to meet whomever we are meant to be with as our child. We our both special education teachers at the same high school and we bought our very first home 5 years ago. We look forward to filling our home with the laughter and love of a child.
Today was Kristen’s 40th Birthday! We had a very relaxing day around the house and then went hiking. We finished the day at one of our local favorite places to eat. The night before we had a big party for Kristen at our house. It was more like an open house where people came and left whenever they wanted to. We had it catered and had way to much food left over. It was a truly great night catching up with all of our friends!
Today we went down to historic Jamestown!! The park happened to free for MLK day. It had changed a lot since we had last been there. Kristen was there in 5th grade and I was there when I was 4th grade. It so interesting seeing things as an adult compared to as a child. Anyway, what we’ll probably remember the most about our visit was how amazingly frigid it was. It was in the 20’s but with the wind it brought it down to the teens. Anyway, it was a great time,
