To Someone Special,

Hello!
My name is Lisa & my husband is Derek. We want to thank you for taking the time to read about our family while you consider pursuing adoption. We are a bicoastal family, who loves to travel, camp, kayak, baseball and are family oriented. We love to share our many loves with our nieces, and lifelong friends and their children all of whom we are close to.
We cannot imagine what it must feel like to read our letter, and all the emotions you must be feeling. Our hearts go out to you and we hope that getting to know us may help in making your decision.
Derek is a social worker and was raised by a strong single mother with his brother and sister in New York. They all still live there and we love to vacation together and we travel to New York to see them and our nieces (7 & 5 years). I am a nurse, who grew up with both my parents and moved all throughout Washington State due to my father's work. Both my parents are semi-retired and are looking forward to spending time as our childcare when we are at work!
We have 2 dogs and a cat, but no other children. We struggled with infertility since we married. We own our own home, we value education and have higher education ourselves. We love children and are hoping to share that love with a child and nurture them, watch them grow, and help them reach their full potential.
We would love to talk with you more,
Please feel free to contact us or our attorney.
With our love and respect,
Derek and Lisa

Who We Are

Derek and I met online of all places (how perfect that this is how we will grow our family?!)
I was living in New York where Derek was born and raised, having completed nursing school and was working at a hospital in Manhattan.
When Derek found my profile we started talking and hit it off right away. I was sick and on vacation at the time, and he checked on me every morning.
Once meeting in person, there was something there I knew it right away. We laughed the whole date, played pool and gave each other a hard time. At the end of the date, I was so excited about this man I met I couldn't even give him a good night kiss. He accepted my hug like a gentleman he was raised to be, and checked on me to make sure I got home safely. We continued to date multiple times a week after that, got engaged a year later and then planned a cross country wedding in my home town of Snohomish, Washington. We married on the 3rd anniversary of our first kiss and continue to be as in love was we were on the day we vowed to love each other forever.
Derek and I life has been an adventure. It's amazing to us that a small town girl and a big city boy share so much in common. We love baseball, and we spent many of our date nights in New York at Yankee's games. I have spread my travel bug to Derek, and we love to travel by car all over the country camping at national parks, camping, hiking and kayaking as much as we can.
We are faithful people and believe strongly in the importance of education. Derek and I are life long learners and enjoy visiting historical sites, museums and doing more formal education.
The most important parts of our lives though is our family. Derek has a brother and sister-in-law who have two girls who are the light of our lives. He also has a mother who raised them, and a sister and brother-in-law. They are in New York and we love to visit for important family events and holidays.
In Washington State, where we are now, we are surrounded by my family. My mom and dad who are happily married and such a great support to us. My grandmother who is the youngest 81 year old you will ever meet. We love her so much and spending time with her doing zip lining, concerts and camping has been such a treasure to us. I also have a cousin who is more like a sister to me, who has a husband and two children who we spend time at the park, baseball games, or just hanging out.
We spend a lot of time with our friends as well. We are truly blessed by how much love we are surrounded with in our lives.

Adoption Diary

Today is a special day!

Today we will get to celebrate my best friend of 25 years, daughter’s birthday. She is more our niece than a friend’s kid to us.  We are so happy to celebrate the big #5! She is in love with unicorns and I currently have a unicorn vampire cake in my fridge, and unicorn arts and crafts cover my table to soon be filled into a unicorn backpack for hours of fun!
We are so lucky to be in this little girl’s life, she is surely the light of our for the last 5 years. We have had so much fun watching her turn into a lovely young girl.

Week of 9-25-18

Last week was a fun week in our journey. We have been exploring advertising options, we have been working on our webpage and getting ready for the fun of fall.
We have been working on creating a cook book a collection of family and friends recipes that has been really fun to design, and collect and lets just face it… gather around the table and eat.
Most of our friends have been in Hawaii this week celebrating a wedding of one of their friends and we have been living vicariously through their vacation of sunshine as the weather here in Seattle turns crisp and the leaves start to turn to the cornucopia of colors. Fall is by far the most amazing of all the seasons. Mother nature never fails to be brilliant. I even saw the most amazing rainbow and had to park my car and take it in.
I really do love this time of year. Football games are so much fun, Derek and my dad have been watching the local high school games and doing Friday night dinners and I have been gearing down for another quarter of grad school, reading books, ordering new school supplies.
One would wonder how a nurse and part time student will be a mom. I have been lucky in my job to have been planning for maternity leave through all of our infertility issues, and have plenty of time saved. School… it will go on hold and I have worked that out with my graduate advisor already. I am a planner and this is no exception.
My first goal is to be a mom. To hold a baby, that I get to love and raise and help explore the world, and the rest will fall into place after that.
Derek, he is so ready to be a dad. He was just talking over dinner the other night how he hopes to teach a child to run, and how he would love to take a child camping and fishing. I have really got this Brooklyn man to embrace the PNW life style!! I love hearing about his plans and what he wants to do when he becomes a father. It makes my heart whole.
I really do hope if you are an expecting mother, that you reach out to us. We would love to talk with you to see if your hopes for your child, matches the loving, education focused, adventurous home we hope to provide. We have so much to give a child, but most of all… we have so much love for one. :)

Thank You for Visiting Our Adoption Profile

Derek & Lisa
