Dear Expectant Mother,

Thank you for taking the time to get to know us! Three years ago, we adopted our sweet daughter Elsie. We are forever grateful for the way her remarkable birth mother entrusted us with her child. Elsie has been our most precious gift! We are unbelievably excited to begin this journey through adoption again!

Who We Are

We have known each other for over 20 years! We initially met in our church youth group, but didn't begin dating until about 5 years later. We developed a close friendship while working together as leaders in the children's program at our church, which led to a dating relationship that lasted for 5 1/2 years. We both had a strong desire to complete high school and college before marrying and beginning our life together. Brian graduated from college in 2003 and proposed shortly after. Rachel graduated in 2006 and we were married that summer.

As newlyweds, we had the usual expectations of fairy dust, royal castles and an enchanted life together. It didn't take long for reality to set in though and for us to realize that life, love, anything worth valuing would take hard work and determination. One of the biggest challenges we've faced in our marriage is the struggle to have a child. Through the pain of disappointment and unfulfilled plans, we've grown closer and have developed a deeper appreciation for family.

This year, we are celebrating our 11th year of marriage together. Five years ago, we built a beautiful new house in the most perfect location. Along the road, we have enjoyed many movie dates, baseball games, yummy dinners out and family game nights. We are still active together in the church where we met so many years ago.

Three years ago, we adopted our precious daughter, Elsie. She is flowers, ice cream, and sunshine. She makes every single day better. We are forever grateful for the way her remarkable birthmother entrusted us with her child.

Our story did not follow the path that we expected, but we are confident that our path is what God had planned for us. We look forward to spending the next years of our life walking along this path with another child.

Adoption Diary

Meet Elsie

Three years ago, Elsie’s birthmother gave us the greatest gift! We cannot imagine our lives without this goofy, sweet, yet fiercely independent little girl. We marvel at the true miracle of adoption.

5 things WE LOVE about Elsie:

SHE SINGS at the top of her lungs (even when she doesn’t know the words).

She gives big BEAR HUGS.

She loves to HOLD HANDS with her friends.

She is always up for building a “SPOOkY TUNNEL” (blanket fort).

She loves to SNUGGLE UP with a good book.

Elsie will make THE BEST big sister! She regularly talks about her future baby brother or sister, and how she just can’t wait to snuggle and play together!

A little bit of magic…

Our first night is always spent at an interactive dinner. For the last few years, we have enjoyed the Hoop De Doo Revue. The show is set in the Wild West (boots, braids and country cookin’).

We look forward to our annual trip to Disney. sharing those experiences with a child has made the trip even more magical for us all!

We enjoy a delicious dinner of fried chicken, ribs, corn bread, baked beans, corn and mashed potatoes (happy sigh) while we are serenaded with themed music. We have even both been invited on stage! Following the show, the cast tops off the evening by bringing out a giant strawberry shortcake for each table to share. (which is Elsie’s favorite part!)

We spend the next day at the Disney theme parks. Our annual trips have given us the opportunity to pick out the rides and parks we love best. We have especially loved taking Elsie to meet the characters, spin on the teacups, and fly with Dumbo. The highlight of the trip is watching her eyes light up on the It’s a Small World boat ride!

On our last day, we spend some time at Disney Springs visiting the shops, playing at the lego factory (Brian is an expert at building lego cars), eating a yummy dinner at the Rainforest Café, and finishing the evening with a sweet treat from Ghiradelli (the tastiest ice cream parlor)!
