Amy and Tom met in 2008 while both working at the same magazine in New York. Tom is an editor and Amy is an art director - truly the perfect match!
He was drawn to her style and confidence; she was drawn to his friendliness and intelligence.
Together we love to travel (we took our first trip together to Europe in 2009), cook exotic foods and try every new restaurant in the area, listen to jazz and indie music, visit art museums, and work on DIY projects.
It was on one of our trips – this one to Savannah, Georgia – that Tom proposed (spoiler: Amy said yes). We got married in 2012 and honeymooned in New Zealand, where Amy had lived for three years after college.
We’ve never stopped traveling, even if it’s as simple as a long weekend down the shore.
Always creative, always curious, we look forward to sharing these special moments with our first child.
We just bought our first house in the same town Amy where grew up, and where her parents still live. We can't wait to watch our child grow up there, with lots of friends and family nearby and places to run around.
Our neighbors include several families with kids; there’s a park one block away, and a block party on the street each year. Nearby there’s also plenty of culture – an art museum, a concert venue, even an annual film festival. And we’re only an hour away from the shore, where we go most weekends in the summer.
We also wanted to live close to Amy's parents because Amy's mom is the family babysitter – she’s helped take care of all her grandkids, taking them to the library or on day trips to places like the zoo, and sharing her love of crafting and baking.
Amy has always been creative – at age 7 she was writing stories (complete with illustrations), at age 17 she won an international scrapbooking competition on behalf of her high school’s Key Club (a community service organization), and now she's a professional art director and graphic designer.
In her spare time she loves to make DIY craft projects, cook new and exotic recipes, and read a lot. She still volunteers too, designing materials for the local library. Amy is also interested in healthy, organic living and yoga.
Amy is very maternal, and children and pets love her.
Tom has always been curious about the world: he started pulling books off shelves at the library and sitting on the floor to read them when he was just a kid. He even skipped the 6th grade!
Now a journalist, Tom still craves knowledge about everything, having worked for publications covering diverse topics such as world news, health and fitness, cooking, even lifestyle and beauty.
When he’s not at work, he loves to tend his garden, where he grows vegetables and herbs; run; read books; cook; and do random DIY projects.
Tom is a friendly and open person, and he makes new friends wherever he goes.
