Brian and I met on Christian Mingle in September of 2009. He saw that I was a UNC fan and so he messaged me. Our 1st phone call was 4 hours and our second was an all-nighter for 9 hours! We clicked instantly. The first time we met in person, I surprised him with a scavenger hunt in a bookstore and I was at the end of it. Within 2 weeks we were dating, by Christmas Eve we were engaged, and by the following May we were married!
Our wedding was the happiest day of our lives. The only thing that could beat it was the coming of Uriah. <3
When we got married, and discussed our hopes for children, adoption was always on the table. We wanted both and we were sure. After a year of marriage, we started trying to get pregnant, but as the months went by it seemed wise to get checked out. The doctors said we had some issues and that the best course to take would be to start fertility treatments.
So we started the first couple of procedures and got pregnant, which was SO exciting! Sadly, at 7 weeks we lost the baby. We got right back on the horse and kept trying. We did a couple more treatments, but were unable to conceive. The next choices would start costing thousands of dollars. We felt we'd rather spend that money on a child that exists for sure than on the hope of one of our own. We knew we'd be able to welcome a baby and love it as our own.
Finding the right agency took some time, but once we found The Hope Center we were home. We were prepared to wait a long time, but the Lord blessed us and we were picked within a couple weeks of finishing our home study. Then Uriah was born about 3 weeks later.
An amazing young woman named Erin gave us this incredible gift. We have an open adoption and stay in regular contact with her and her parents. There's no gift this life has brought us that has been greater. We are completely in love with this boy. Even in his most frustrating moments (which aren't many), just watching him grow and nurturing his little life has been our greatest joy!
I don't know who God will bring us next but they are gonna get one fabulous big brother to grow up with. We deeply anticipate the joy of them getting to meet each other and grow into a forever family!
This process is a whirlwind and it stretches you in all kinds of ways. Our hearts get a little bigger each time. We're SO thankful that adoption is part of our story and that it gets to be again!
Here are some fast facts on Uriah:
*Born in September of 2015 (He's 2.5 now)
*Super mellow and laid back kid
*Loves trains, balls, & animals
*Does great with other kids and even loves to share!
*He can belt the ABC song any time of day
*His favorite foods are PB&J and Pizza (and whatever mommy and daddy are eating ;P )
*His initials are UNC, cuz we're crazy Tarheel people. :p
For 7 years we've been building a home together and it's been a wonderful adventure of repairs, remodels and learning new loves like gardening!
Our home has a front and back yard in a quiet neighborhood. We have 4 bedrooms (2 upstairs and 2 down), a gym/playroom, and 2 full bathrooms. Downstairs is an open floor plan of the living room/ kitchen and more play area.
Our neighborhood has several great playgrounds and is only minutes from local libraries, the rec center, and our church. Our neighbors on all sides are very friendly and kind. And with a 20 min drive you can be at the beach, a water park, the zoo, and various gardens and hiking trails.

What we love about Katie...
When I think back to the first time we spoke, it was everything in those first conversations that still rings true today. She has this remarkable love and care for others. She sees the value and worth in other people and objects that others would deem worthless. She will always try and believe the best in someone, even if they don't see it in themselves. Her love for Jesus and Carolina basketball were 2 of the main points we clicked on right away.
Her love of animals inspired me to care much more about them. I never thought much about cats until she brought them into our house and it gave me a whole new appreciation.
She loves our son tremendously and gives almost all of her time and energy to raising him while maintaining one and sometimes 2 jobs! Katie loves church, family and traditions. She is not a great roller skater, but she can create a beautiful garden and I just love her green thumbs and red hair.

What we love about Brian...
One of the first things that drew me to Brian was his sense of humor and how comfortable I felt talking to him. We have a mutual love of God and the UNC Tarheels. I remember observing how generous and forgiving he is as well. He'll offer to help someone in need, no matter the cost to himself and he doesn't hold grudges against people in his past who've mistreated him.
Brian is very tender-hearted toward animals and kids- basically anyone who is in a helpless position. He's also a man of many talents including rapping, creative gift giving, and competetive roller skating!
Kids just love him. It's crazy how quickly he becomes their favorite person. It's probably because he lets them push him down and throw things at him. ;)
Most of all Uriah loves him to pieces and squeals whenever he comes home from work. Watching them play together is one of my greatest joys. He's a wonderful man and we love him dearly!
