Michael and I were raised in large Christian families several thousand miles apart. Despite the distance, our families function in a similar fashion and have maintained strong relationships over the years. We take turns spending the Holidays with each of our extended families where we enjoy large meals, reminiscing about old times and lots of laughter. We really enjoy focusing most of our attention on the kids and love showering them with attention.
Outside of the holidays, we regularly find ways to meet for dinner or attend a local activity together. We feel lucky that we live close enough to some of our nieces and nephews that we can attend their sporting events and school plays. Our favorite thing to do is invite all our nieces and nephews to our house for a slumber party where we make personal pizzas, play hide and seek and watch movies.
From the beginning, we always talked about starting a family together. While there were a few options for us, our open hearts and large amount of love led us to adoption. While developing our relationship together, Michael shared that he had been adopted at birth by his parents in Montana. Together we have had long conversations about adoption and understand the uniqueness, but we chose adoption because we understand that the best families are the ones you choose people to be part of. With adoption, we not only get to bring a child into our family, but we will become part of the larger network of people who will help influence the child’s life. We look forward to the opportunity to create a family from a place of love and understanding.
We are excited to be living in a Historic neighborhood with a home across the street from a beautiful 30 acre park. The neighborhood is one where we greet each other by name while passing by at the park or heading to the local coffee shop.
The park hosts a large playground, a stocked lake, and several activities including summertime concerts and movies. We have a very affectionate cat named Lillie, who loves to meet new people and play in our private back yard.
