We met in 2005 while attending East Carolina University. Nicole's best friend introduced us because she thought we had several similarities. Not only did we have an instant connection, but we realized we were both majoring in nursing. After meeting, we spent as much time together as possible. This included the simple things such as study dates, grocery shopping, attending football games, going to the gym together, and enjoying day long beach trips. We graduated from ECU in 2008 and moved to Charlotte, NC to be near Nicole's family. We enjoyed the city life for awhile and rented a condo in downtown. We both began working as nurses at the local hospital and quickly settled into our life together. After a wonderful year in Charlotte, Josh proposed. Soon after, we bought our first house and were blessed with our sweet pup, Wesley. We got married in 2010 in a beautiful botanical garden and celebrated with all of our loved ones. To know that we were going to spend the rest of our lives together made it the best day of our lives (to date).
Since very early in our relationship, we always knew that we wanted to have children. We spent several years trying to conceive a child which included several fertility treatments. We experienced a heartbreaking miscarriage that took a heavy toll on our hearts. We gave ourselves time to grieve and got back on the horse with ongoing fertility procedures. After many more months, we realized that we had been ignoring God's signs that we were supposed to become a mom and a dad through adoption. Everyone has a different story and we have found great peace and excitement in realizing that this is our journey. We consider ourselves incredibly blessed to have the opportunity to welcome a sweet child into our arms.
We live in Durham, North Carolina in a wonderfully quaint neighborhood. Our neighborhood is very diverse and includes lots of young families. The community is very tight-knit and we will frequently get together for cookouts or fundraisers. We have lived here for the past 3 years and have quickly considered this place our home. Durham is best known for Duke University and the Durham Bulls (AAA baseball team). We have excellent restaurants, parks, walking trails, hospitals, schools, and churches all within 15 minutes of our house. We love where we live because there is always a family-friendly event or festival going on. Another reason we love living here is the diversity that "the Triangle" area brings. We enjoy learning about different cultures and ethnicities. We attend a wonderful church that is 3 miles from our house. We enjoy volunteering for various activities and events and look forward to joining in on all the children's activities!
There is so much I could share with you when trying to describe who Nicole is, and how great of a person she truly is. Nicole is the type of person that lights up a room when she walks in, and the person everyone is eager to catch up with at a family function, event, or party. The first two traits that come to mind when thinking about my wife is how caring and how thoughtful of a person she is to others. She always puts other before herself, and she is great at remembering all the important events going on in our friends and family's lives. Nicole is the type of person that is everyones best friend, and she treats everyone as if they are her best friend. Nicole loves her Wesley boy (our boxer pup), loves to be outside doing activities, enjoys hanging around the house working in the yard, and is active in our church. I believe that if you chose us as adoptive parents for your child, that precious baby would be hitting the lottery in getting Nicole as his/her mother. Nicole is a wonderful person, and I consider myself so blessed to be able to spend my life with her.
I know that this sounds cliché, but I knew without a doubt that I wanted to marry Josh the very first time I saw him. He has always had this wonderful way about him in which he makes whoever he is talking to feel like the most important person in the world. He has a smile that will light up a room and a vibrant personality that makes everyone want to join in on the fun.
Josh is a wonderful husband. He's very attentive and able to anticipate my needs prior to recognizing them myself. For example, he always fills up my gas tank when he knows that I am getting low, sets my shoes out before a walk, or picks up my coffee creamer when he knows it's getting low. He will put all his focus and attention on you which is just one of the many qualities that makes him such a great person and life partner.
He's incredibly caring. He is always the first one to give up his seat for someone else, a true gentleman. He is also very loving and supportive. I don't think I would have made it through our infertility struggles without him. Above all he is a great dad to our dog, Wesley! My heart melts when I think about what an incredible father he will be to our future child(ren).
