Dawn is a Sergeant in the NYPD, and Ricky is the Director of Finance for a BMW dealership. We met in 2006 when Ricky worked for Toyota and Dawn was looking to lease a car. The first thing Dawn liked was the honesty and sincerity Ricky showed while helping her to lease a car. While preparing the paper work Ricky shared that he was from Singapore which led to conversations of world travel. We exchanged numbers and began spending time together going to Broadway shows, concerts, and traveling. It wasn't long before we realized that we were meant to spend our lives together and on December 13, 2009 we went to Vegas and got married in The Little White Chapel!
In May of 2012 we were blessed with our son, Teagan. From the very beginning, we approached parenting as a team. We shared the middle of the night feedings, both comfort him after a nightmare, and together nurse him back from the occasional cold or flu. Of course we also share in the joys of his accomplishments; from his first steps, first word, even the first time touching sand. The wonder we see in his eyes as he discovers the world reminds us how excited we are to embark on this journey again with another little one!
On weekends we go to local events, parks or go hiking as a family. We all love to be in the great outdoors and have recently added camping to our weekend time together! We also have playdates and Bar-B-Q's, and travel to different zoos and theme parks for weekend getaways. We even found a near by drive in movie theatre which we love to go to. One of Teagan's favorite activities is going over to our neighbor's pond to catch frogs and watch tadpoles turn into frogs! We treasure these moments together and look forward to enjoying all of these activities as a family of four.
We live in a 5 bedroom home with lots of space to grow and play. We live in a beautiful area on a Mountain, North of Manhattan. We have close to an acre of land with lots of room to run and an area to climb.
Dawn was raised in Wyoming until moving to New York when she was 18 years old to become a nanny. After being a nanny for three years, she worked in restaurants putting herself through school. She also babysat for a family who were regular customers of hers and quickly became part of the family. To this day the two girls keep in touch with her and always make time to see Teagan when they are home for a visit. Throughout her adolescence, she took care of children including special needs children. She is a very caring compassionate woman who loves to help others. She is active in her church and has served as a Deacon for 6 years and considers the members of the church to be extended family. She brings Teagan to church regularly and he loves saying hi to all of his "friends" there.
She has been with the NYPD for 19 years and is looking forward to retiring in the near future to be a full time mom. She has patience of a Saint and has a calming effect on others. Dawn loves to be outdoors and hopes to live in a more country like setting with a large organic vegetable and fruit garden. She is very health conscious and works hard to provide healthy nutritious meals for the family. Dawn is very playful with Teagan and loves to be silly with him; they are always dancing, singing or playing jokes on each other. Dawn tends to be a very positive person and finds the positive in even the worst of situations. Our niece, Gabrielle moved here from Singapore to go to college. Dawn welcomed her with open arms and took care of all her needs as well as attending to Teagans needs. Dawn and Gabrielle became quite close. They cooked together, went to the movies and other events together. This year Gabby was accepted and transferred to Cornell University. Dawn took Gabby shopping made sure she had all she needed and they along with Teagan drove to Ithaca and got her settled.
Dawn loves to read, hike, travel, go camping and to play golf. She also likes to go to concerts, Broadway shows and loves to entertain at the house. Dawn also is working on learning Spanish and is working on getting her certificate to become a Doula to help women through the stages of labor.
Ricky was born and raised in Singapore and moved to New York in 1996. Upon arriving in the States he worked for his friend in the garment industry until 2002 when he started working as a car salesmen for the Toyota dealership where Dawn met him. Dawn was drawn to his wonderful (and endless) energy. At the time, Dawn was living quite far away and he would drive to take her out to dinner or to a show and drive all the way home, about 80 miles each way. He was a complete gentlemen!
Ricky is an amazing father. When Teagan is not in a great mood over something, Ricky is great at distracting him with something else and soon they are laughing and having a good time. Ricky loves to work in the yard and Teagan is right there next to him. Teagan has an interest in fishing, so Ricky plans fishing trips just for the two of them to spend time together. If it snows they shovel together, and then, take the slides out and zoom down the hill!
Ricky loves to golf, watch sports, travel and enjoys good meals. He is kind, loving, and very giving of himself. He is definitely the most tidy in the family (which is a great influence on Teagan and Dawn!). He has been in the car industry for many years and recently started working on starting his own business in order to spend more time with the family.
