Carl and I are both hard-working and loving parents. We believe children need to be shown love and affection while maintaining a structured home life. We love our son tremendously but have always wanted two children to make our family complete. After experiencing several miscarriages we decided God was showing us an open window to build our family through adoption and we are excited to do so! We will be celebrating our 10th wedding anniversary this fall and have the excitement and resources to raise our children with many joyous and exciting experiences!
We both enjoy being outside and going places like the beach and the lake. Just this summer we took a family trip to Alaska! We often cook dinner and eat together, watch movies, television shows and take walks together. We attend church on a weekly basis where I am involved in a Wednesday night women's group and I sometimes teach Sunday School. Carl occasionally works the video camera for the Livestream broadcast and Nicholas attends Sunday School weekly. Faith has been a huge part of our lives and through our adoption journey and will continue to play a huge role in raising our children.
When it comes to parenting Carl and I are truly a team. We equally do things together with our son including playing Lego's, playing super heroes and sharing the responsibility of getting him ready for school and bedtime. Being able to count on each other has allowed us to really enjoy being parents and want to do it again!
Speaking of our son, Nicholas is a very active and friendly five-year old. He enjoys playing on his fort outside, jumping on the trampoline, riding his bike, running, and playing most sports. His teachers describe him as a good listener and very friendly toward his peers. He is very kind and gentle with our pets. When we are around friends and family with young children he is also very gentle and loving. Our friends and family have told us (and we know this) that he is going to be a great big brother one day!
Our house sits on an acre of land in a friendly neighborhood in the suburbs of Richmond, VA. We have space to throw or kick a ball, have a fort (which Carl built) and a trampoline! We also have some woods behind our house, giving us a place to take short nature walks and explore.
Laura's friends describe her as a very friendly, down-to-earth kind of person. She values time with friends and family and creating memories over material possessions. Laura teaches physical education (which she says is the best job in the world) in a very diverse, multi-cultural elementary school giving her lots of experience working with children of all ages. She enjoys her job and keeping physically active with both with her students and her family. In her free time she enjoys jogging, hiking, biking, reading, painting, playing the piano, and doing anything with Nicholas. Often you will find both of them jumping on the trampoline or playing ball in the backyard after school.
Carl's friends describe him as being very relaxed and easy going. He smiles often and is very upbeat and positive making anyone he is around feel comfortable and want to be around him. Some of the things Laura admires about him is the way he treats others. He gives a friendly wave to everyone he passes and is always polite and respectful, even to those in the check out line. In Carl's free time, he enjoys boating, mountain biking, fishing, grilling, playing golf, and spending time with familyat the lake. He enjoys sharing his interests with Nicholas and looks forward to sharing them with another child as well.
