We met in 2007 after we were jokingly paired up as "dates" for a kickball tournament. Aaron won Kim over with his kickball skills and we were engaged just 11 months later. We married in 2009 and have three biological children, Emmett, Marshall, and Liza. Emmett is five and our oldest son. He has such a kind-hearted spirit and a sensitive soul. He enjoys riding his bike, playing
sports, watching movies,
helping Daddy, and making others happy. He is learning to read and will start kindergarten next year. Marshall is our energetic three-year-old who has a contagious spunk for life. He loves taking things apart, looks up to his big brother and
has never met a stranger. Liza is our one-year-old daughter who is extremely easy going and loves to dance. She is ready to take on the role of big sister!
Our family is built on faith in God and our highest priority is to make sure our children have a strong relationship with Christ. If our children are Christ-centered, we feel the other values that are
important for us to instill in our children will be evident – values such as love, honesty, respect, and forgiveness. In our
family, we love to have fun, laugh, go places and experience new things, and we learn from making mistakes. We encourage openness and we teach our children to support each other – even if
it’s just toddler t-ball!
If the weather is nice, you will probably find us outside. We love being outdoors and enjoy hunting, fishing, caring for our chickens, playing on the swing set, riding
four-wheelers, or just letting the kids do what they do best – get dirty!
Family time is very important to us and we
look forward to our Sunday dinners with
Aaron’s immediate family each week. He has a big family which is one of the reasons why we wanted a big family as well. Your child will have lots of cousins to run around with! Kim’s family, although a short drive away, are also a huge part of our lives. Both sides of the family are very supportive and are excited to welcome another little one.
We love celebrating birthdays and holidays as a family with different
traditions. Aaron’s sister has a big Fourth of July celebration each summer with a huge fireworks show. On Christmas morning, we all get silly string in our stockings and have a silly string fight!
For Christmas on Aaron’s side, the kids all wear matching pajamas, we eat
Chinese food, and the adults play cards. We host the Thanksgiving celebration and we have an annual bingo game. Some common themes to all of our gatherings
are food, fun and laughter!
We also have several friends who are part of
our lives that are always there for us if we need someone. This includes members of our church small group, whom we meet with weekly. We gather to study God’s word, pray, laugh, and encourage each other while our children play and join us in fellowship.
We live in central Illinois in an area that has a small-town feel but has all the benefits and amenities of a larger city. Home
to two universities, there are so many opportunities and things to do. Since we prefer a more rural feel, we found a spacious ranch-style home that backs up to an open field and woods. We have a large, fenced-in backyard with a trampoline, huge wooden swing set that Aaron designed and built, and a sandbox. There is also a coop for the chickens with an area for them to roam around as well as a vegetable garden that the children love to help with in the summer. Our home is surrounded by a variety of mature trees – one that is great for climbing!
Here are Kim's thoughts on Aaron:
I never questioned whether Aaron was the one for me. His values, intelligence, sense of humor and hard-work ethic are a few things that attracted me to him. He can literally build or fix anything and if he doesn’t know how he will figure it out! Aaron loves to read books that help him grow as a person, father, and manager. I admire his willingness to continually
learn, grow, and change. Aaron also enjoys hunting and fishing, cooking, building things, and doing the budget. He loves
to have the kids help him with projects and to teach them through life experiences.
Aaron has a Master’s Degree in Industrial Management and is an Operations Manager at a recycling facility in the area. If I could describe Aaron in one word it would be “selfless”. He never puts himself first and is always ready to help someone in need. Aaron is a devoted husband and committed father. I am thankful that our children and I get to share life with him!
Here are Aaron's thoughts on Kim:
Kim has such a laid back personality and finds a friend in everyone. I always knew she was the one for me. As a school
psychologist, she works with children everyday and helps to change the trajectory of their lives in a positive way. This comes home to our children as well as she is always a step ahead. Whether it is the next activity coming up or it is the next milestone in our child's life they need to be working towards, she is on it. She loves to parent our children, bake, cook with me in the kitchen and is quite creative. I love her drive when she sets her mind to something and is passionate when it comes to things that she really cares about. Her loving personality is contagious and she loves to joke around!
