We were friends for almost 10 years before we started dating. Our romance was kindled on the dance floor at James’s 30th birthday celebration and two years later, we were married. We have been married for almost eight years.
From the very beginning, we have been committed to building a family together -- in fact, that was one of the focal points of James’s marriage proposal! Our son James was born in 2012 and has brought us more joy, love and laughter than we could have imagined. We love to play, laugh, sing, dance, build, imagine and explore as a family.
We cannot wait to welcome another child into our family, to see James become a big brother and to experience the wonder of parenthood for a second time!
ABOUT OUR SON:
James is a bright, precocious, funny little boy. He has an impressive vocabulary for a preschooler and tends to emphasize whatever he is saying with hand gestures and facial expressions. He loves music and knows the words to almost every song on the radio -- and he's not shy about singing along!
He has a vivid imagination and loves to pretend to be superheroes or pirates or Transformers. He also has quite a bit of patience for a kid his age and can spend hours building with Legos.
James adores his cousins and cannot wait to be a big brother – he is such a sweet and loving boy and we know he will shower a new baby with just as much love as we will!
ABOUT OUR FAMILIES:
Jenn grew up in New York and is the oldest of 4 siblings, all of whom returned to our hometown and are among our closest friends. Jenn’s parents, who have been married for more than 40 years, are amazing role models. To say they adore their 8 grandchildren would be an understatement – they are at almost every school event, sporting event, dance recital and birthday celebration. Jenn has a very large extended family, most of which lives in our hometown. Family has always been at the center of Jenn’s life – with over 40 relatives in one town, it seems that there is always a holiday, birthday or special occasion to celebrate!
James grew up in Massachusetts and is the youngest of three children. James’s parents have remained in their hometown for their entire lives and have been married for nearly fifty years! We try to visit several times a year and we routinely have video chats with them to stay close. His oldest sister and her family live in New York, while his other sister and her family live in Massachusetts. Although we don't see them as often as we would like, we remain close and always have a great time when we are together!
We live in Jenn's hometown on Long Island, in the suburbs of New York City. We were lucky enough to find a beautiful home with a big basement and a lovely backyard, so James has plenty of space to run and play. There are a number of shops and restaurants in the downtown area and several parks and playgrounds nearby. We’re only a 20 minute drive to the beach and less than an hour into New York City, both of which we visit often. Most importantly, we are surrounded by good friends and family!
I love being a mother more than I’d ever imagined. James is truly the light of my life. I hope and pray each day that we will be blessed with another child and have the privilege of becoming parents again, as it is truly the best thing that ever happened to me.
I grew up spending my summers at the beach and I love nothing more than the sound of ocean waves and the feel of sand between my toes. I enjoy spending time outside in general, soaking up the sunshine and fresh air, and I make it a point to spend time with James in the backyard or at a local park whenever the weather allows.
I have always enjoyed getting lost in a good book. Happily, James enjoys books just as much; we visit the local library often and spend time reading together every day. I also love music – my husband James and I have have enjoyed a number of concerts together. Young James loves music just as much – he is always singing along to the radio and initiating dance parties in the den!
I am an environmental lawyer and I am incredibly lucky that my firm allows me to work on a part-time basis and to work from home when possible, which lets me maximize my time at home with James. One of my cousins and her wonderful family cares for James while we are at work. We feel so fortunate that James is with family when he is not with us and James always looks forward to spending time with his big cousins!
Jenn is an amazing person and there are many aspects about her that I love. One of her best qualities is her commitment to family and friends. I knew Jenn for many years before we started dating and she was a great friend. She always helped her family and brought people together, which was important to me. I knew she would make a great mother and she hasn't disappointed me! Both James and I are extremely lucky that she is in our lives.
My oldest sister moved to New York City when she graduated college and I visited her often during my college days. I loved New York City from my very first visit and, with as a business major, I knew it would be a good fit. I started my career on Wall Street when I graduated and have worked as a bond trader for over 15 years.
While I am very interested in finance, I have always been told that it’s easy to find your passion in life by seeing what you do most on a Friday night when you are typically the most tired. My hobbies include cooking, baking and astronomy.
We regularly host dinner parties for family and friends and I enjoy preparing large meals for everyone. I have recently developed an interest in baking bread and have produced many different styles. My grandparents started a bakery in my hometown, which is now run by one of my cousins, so there are four generations of bread bakers in my family. I have taken professional baking courses and I love teaching James even at a young age how to work properly in the kitchen. I think cooking highlights the importance of sharing and I hope to pass that along to James and future children.
I have enjoyed astronomy since I got my first telescope as a child. Being able to view the sun, stars and planets still amazes me. I have enjoyed introducing my family and even our neighbors to astronomy – it is thrilling to see for the first time!
My father and uncle ran a gas station and auto repair shop for decades -- a family business started by their father. At a young age, I began work at the shop and continued to do so on school vacations and weekends throughout high school. As a result, I have always had an interest in mechanical things and working with my hands. As I grew older, this translated more from large cars and engines into small mechanical wristwatches and the engines that drive them. James regularly helps me with projects around the house, learning how things work and how to use tools properly.
I knew James for almost 10 years before we started dating and we have many friends in common. My girlfriends and I frequently talked about how lucky the girl who married James would be, given his incredibly kind and generous nature. And we were right! Becoming a father has only highlighted his patience and selflessness. I never realized how much watching your husband as a father could deepen and strengthen your love and admiration for him. Young James absolutely adores his daddy and the look of pure joy on his face each night when he hears his dad’s keys in the front door lock is one of my favorite moments of the day.
On our very first date, James mentioned that he was jealous of me and some of our other friends who had our families so close by, as his family is from Massachusetts. He explained that his mother’s family always gathered at his grandmother’s house for Sunday dinner and how much he missed them. The way he spoke of his family warmed my heart and I knew that I had found someone who valued family just as much as I did!
James has a wide array of hobbies and interests and I am always impressed by his passion and commitment as he delves into new subjects. My favorite of his hobbies is his passion for cooking -- my husband is an incredible chef! Whether he’s making ice cream, baking bread or grilling in the backyard, I know I am in for a delicious treat. Family dinners remain important to us and we eat dinner as a family every night we can.
