National Adoption Awareness Month!

November is National Adoption Awareness month. Here’s to hoping that an expectant mother or expectant parents will find us and forever change our lives with the blessing of placing their child in our family. This is our biggest and brightest dream, and it would be amazing to have this happen in November!! Read more »

Check Back Soon

For whatever reason, Adoptimist’s site is not loading the diary entries. In fact our diary page says “check back soon for new entries”. We did not post that message and we have numerous entries for you to read. We will be checking back periodically to see if the diary entries are being loaded. Until then…..please take Read more »

School’s Open!!

Now that school is fully back in session, I thought I would take a few moments to speak about my career in education. I am currently in the middle of my 19th year as a faculty member in higher education. We did not start a family early in our relationship (almost 13 years now) due to the fact that trying to achieve tenure status in a Read more »

Taking Care of Our Neighbors in Need

I thought I would post this picture of Lauren and her recent act of generosity. Lauren is a member of a couple community groups and read on a posting that a teenage girl who is new to our country was in need of a bike in good working order. Lauren contacted this young person’s language tutor and arranged for them to come over to the house. Read more »

A Sports Kid or a Math Kid? Maybe an Art Kid?

We survived the last baseball game of the season, though not sure how. Many parents seemed to be literally stuck to their lawn chairs in the 105 “real feel” heat and unusually humid weather. I don’t think any of the young players even noticed! They may as well have been in a snow storm….its all the same to them. There Read more »

We Are All Melting!

Ugh…its a scorcher outside already and it is not even 8:30am yet! We’ve been very lucky so far in Chicago as far as hot days go, but now summer is really letting us know “it’s on”. LB has a baseball game at noon and I really feel sorry for all these boys who will be dressed in full length polyester baseball pants Read more »

Contact on the 5th Day!

Well, the internet is excellent for making connections with people interested in the same things. Unfortunately for us, on our 5th day of being on Adoptimist, we were contacted by someone claiming to be interested in us as a family. We later found out this person was also interested in several other Chicago area families, and is especially, Read more »

Illinois and Indiana based, but able to work with all 50 states.

The first thing that we should probably let you know is that our agency has offices in both Illinois and Indiana. They have been providing a full range of adoption and counseling services to both birth parents and adoptive parents since 1996. They are also very experienced with interstate adoptions. So whether you happen to live in CA or NY or Read more »

A Profile Pic For Posterity

Ok, we are not too crazy about this main profile pic, but it is one that sort of works for the purpose, but better yet, it was taking by LB when we were trying to teach him how to use a camera. Not too bad for a first try. We hope to have something better in the near future, perhaps something outdoors. It is summer after all, and a million Read more »

About This Diary

We began our search to build a family way back in June of 2012. Initially we started through the foster care system, thinking this would be the best and most efficient route, received our license, did numerous training hours and participated in continuing education topics like: educational advocacy, early intervention and conspicuous families among other courses.

Eventually, we came to the realization that the best course of action for all of us is to become the adoptive parents to a child who is "placed" with us by the child's mother or parents. Choice and free will on the part of the birth parent(s) is the significant distinction here.
