After meeting at a party with friends, we’ve been together for over sixteen years. We are each other’s best friend, as our love for each other continues to grow through our triumphs, sadness, laughs, and celebrations.
We have a very strong marriage based on mutual respect, trust and that we truly enjoy being together as a couple. We both work from home so are fortunate to see more of each other during the days while Vivian is at school. We enjoy lunch dates, riding our bikes together for an afternoon, or running to see a movie. Even when we are just meeting in the kitchen for our next cup of coffee, we are so happy we can see each other throughout the day.
Besides good communication, we believe in the importance of flexibility and the hard work that is needed to make a marriage successful. Our marriage is based on the firm belief that it is a lifelong partnership and commitment to each other and the family that we will be parenting and nurturing together.
Being parents and building our family is the most rewarding experience in our lives. We have so much to share and can promise you that a new baby will be a welcomed and much loved addition to our lives.
We are so very grateful to have our house filled with our daughter’s songs, laughter, energy, chatter and questions. We cannot wait to share that with another child. We also hope to have the opportunity for Vivian and another child to share the special bond that exists between siblings. To us, parenthood is a wonderful experience and we are so hopeful to love another child.
For both us, being with our family, all together, is always the most special part of the day. The mundane, every-day life is so exceptional even if it is simple. We are both fortunate to work out of our home, which gives us more time to spend all together, whether it is during the hectic mornings or the dinner-making evenings. Cherishing those moments together is so important to us.
Family is extremely important to us, and we all spend a huge amount of time together. Our family has always had dinner at the dining table together since we brought Vivian home from the hospital as a newborn. We refuse to give up that tradition, as we feel spending dinner time together at the end of the day is a priority for family. We share parenting and household responsibilities equally and one of us or both of us cooks at home each night, with Vivian as our little helper.
Our dog, Cookie, is always in the middle of all activities at home. She has become a special friend to Vivian. Cookie is in charge of waking Vivian every school morning.
Our home in the suburbs of Atlanta is a wonderful place to raise a family. There are year round festivals and many special locations such as the beautiful city park, zoo, and aquarium.
We live in a neighborhood filled with families, friends and fun. There is a strong sense of community and we feel so fortunate to have that network. The neighborhood kids are always together, especially once the local pool opens for summer fun. The parent pool volunteers plan social events for the kids, like ice cream sundae afternoons, big screen movies in the field, and Easter egg hunts.
I truly loved my job in the corporate architectural realm, but, after Vivian was born, I realized that family was more important than an office job. I opened my own small architectural firm, which has been extremely rewarding in all aspects and one of the best decision we ever made for our family. Paul and I enjoy the fact that I am able to commit more time to our family, spend less time stuck in traffic, and I am finding the right family-life integration now that I am my own boss.
Becoming a mom has changed my life in more ways that I could have ever imagined! I absolutely love everything about it. Growing up I always dreamed of being a mom and it is even better than I ever thought it would be.
I have a great group of friends, especially right in our own neighborhood. We have all grown together as couples and then families. Our neighborhood is extremely social, especially for the moms. And we are so thankful we have this “village” for fun and for help at times.
My mother and sister live in Florida but we are all three extremely close and visit each other often. My extended family is very large, with a large amount of cousins. And even though we are spread all over the country, we all make time to see each other often, especially for milestone events in each other’s lives. Vivian has already been to Phoenix and Houston for two huge weddings, and she loved riding on the airplanes and being the life of the parties.
Like Kathleen, I also gave up an office job to be able to work from home. Professionally I am an investigator for a large company and I have flexibility regarding work hours so I can spend more time with my family. I’m also a musician and usually have several performing and recording projects in which I play bass and synthesizer. I have shared this love of music with Vivian and found she loves to sing and try my instruments in addition to playing her own guitar. We usually always have music of all types playing in the house. Vivian and I have a great time together creating silly tunes and recording them.
We love green growing things and we enjoy gardening projects like planting trees, vegetables and fragrant flowers. My Father had a career in the U.S. Army and I grew up on military bases, spending most of my childhood outside swimming, biking and camping. I still try to be outside as much as I can. We ride bikes a lot as a family and Vivian and I also run a lot, play chase and ride our scooters together. Overall, I have a very big sense of fun and in a lot of ways I am just a big kid.
Giving back to our community is also a value of ours. I have volunteered with the Georgia State Defense Force, in a humanitarian capacity conducting search and rescue and also contributing to the Global War on Terror by assisting National Guard soldiers during their pre-deployment combat training. Currently I volunteer with Project Open Hand delivering meals and as a neighbor volunteer with our community swimming club.
