We are Maria and Loyd, a happily married couple looking forward to growing our loving family. Our story began when we met in college where Maria was studying to be a chemist and Loyd to be a chemical engineer. Studying together lead to dating, and after three years we got engaged just before we graduated from college. After college we attended the same graduate school; while in graduate school, we celebrated our wedding in Maria's hometown with our families and friends.
When we finished graduate school, we began our careers and decided we wanted to find jobs that allowed us to live near our families. Today Maria works for an energy company as an operations manager, while Loyd works as a research manager for a coatings company. Both of our jobs provide stability, excellent benefits, and an ability to be flexible with hours.
In our free time, we enjoy spending time outdoors - nature walks at nearby parks, swimming in our pool, relaxing on our back deck. We also share a love of watching science fiction TV and movies together and playing video games. We look forward to adding children's titles to family movie and game nights!
Maria's father, brother, aunts, uncles, and cousins live within an hour of us. We get together several times each year to celebrate birthdays, anniversaries, and just for fun.
Loyd's parents and one brother are withinabout an hour's drive and he has another brother and extended family throughout the eastern and southern
parts of the country. We gather frequently with his nearby family and with the extended family for special events.
Our Family Traditions
New Year - We prepare a special dinner drawing on each of our family traditions for the foods - smoked pork, cabbage, black-eyed peas are for good fortune in the new year.
Easter - We gather for Easter dinner with Maria's and Loyd's families together at Loyd's parents house. We also celebrate with traditional Easter flowers of hyacinths and tulips around the house.
Summer Holidays - We love to host cook-out pool parties for Memorial Day and Fourth of July. The pool cools us off during the afternoon and the fire pit warms us if the evening gets cool. It's so nice to be outdoors relaxing, enjoying good food and great company.
Thanksgiving - We host our combined family together at our house each year for Thanksgiving dinner. Maria prepares the meal, side dishes, and desserts; Loyd has the honor of carving the turkey.
Christmas - We have a tradition of spending Christmas Eve with Loyd's family at his parent's house and spending Christmas Day with Maria's family at our house. We share our gifts to each other early Christmas morning starting with our stockings that we fill with special and sentimental gifts for each other.
