We met on a blind date in college and knew we had something special when we spent the night talking until sunrise. Originally from Iowa, we were (literally!) first in line when same-sex marriage was legalized.
We’ve made a comfortable life in the San Francisco Bay Area, and in 2017 we adopted our daughter Jules. We are so happy to be parents. We enjoy time together as a family, be it cooking dinner, singing silly songs, or talking the hours away.
A Few Things We Do
We love spending the day hiking the trails, visiting the beach to collect seashells, having lazy afternoon picnics with friends, camping among the redwoods, and most importantly visiting the duck pond. On a day in we play board games and puzzles or try our hand at a bake-off.
We live in Sunnyvale, California, a diverse city with beautiful weather in the heart of silicon valley. Our home is in a family-friendly neighborhood with tree-lined streets. We live close to parks and playgrounds, the schools are excellent, and it’s just a short bike ride to the ice cream shop.
Holidays are special at our house. We love hosting and cooking a big Thanksgiving dinner. We put on our own Easter egg hunts and elaborate Halloween costumes. And we believe in the magic of presents under the Christmas tree.
Our Extended Families
The grandmas are excited to welcome a grandchild. Our families live in different states, so we video call often between yearly visits. Our family vacations are perfect for catching up while building sandcastles at the beach, enjoying rides at Disneyland, or sledding in the snow. We love having close friends over for dinner or holidays, so our child is surrounded with a full family of honorary Aunts and Uncles.
Tim is a wonderful stay-at-home papa who creates a home filled with love and laughter. He loves to dance and read with Jules. He plans events with our friends and family, always managing to find some special occasion to celebrate, which usually includes cake. He is such an amazing cook that it’s sometimes a let-down when we order in (his tacos and barbecue are hard to beat). He is excellent at language and details, with degrees in both accounting and linguistics. Tim is loving, thoughtful, and full of insight, and I know he is excited to see our family grow.
Sean is always learning something new. Aside from playing viola as a kid, he plays the piano, marimba, harmonica, and clarinet—almost entirely self-taught. He recently picked up sketching and water-coloring to great effect, which isn’t a surprise since he is so talented! He is always eager to set up the telescope for a good look at the moon, and he can bake a mean sourdough. What I love most about Sean is how patient and devoted a father he can be. When he shows Jules which piano key to press, or how to hold a pencil, I can see the joy reflected in her eyes and knows she is experiencing something truly special.
