We met in 1995, when we both worked at a theatrical scenery maker in London, England. Kris was a scenic welder and Gail was a manager. We moved to the U.S. in 2001 to establish the New York branch of the company, which provides equipment for the entertainment industry, for movies, fashion shows, and events. We have lived in the East Village since we arrived, and we love our little corner of New York City!
They say, “opposites attract” and we have been together for 15 years! Kris would say Gail is full of adventurous fun, but also has a very disciplined organizational ability and a strong sense of right and wrong. Gail would say Kris is more easy-going and a very generous, loving person and everyone wants to be around him. Since Kris has firsthand experience with adoption, he is very excited to adopt a child and grow our family. Kris has two wonderful kids who live in England, Odysseus (Ody) and Cassandra (Cass). We see them as much as possible! Ody and Cass are very supportive of our plans to adopt a child.
We got married in June 2013. The ceremony was an intimate affair, at the beautiful Botanical Garden in the East Village. We were lucky enough to celebrate with close friends and family who flew to New York from England and California. Our wedding reception was held in a local Sicilian restaurant, to which the guests were transported in a trolley bus called Ollie. It was a beautiful, but very hot New York Summer day, so some of the guests needed to borrow hats to give them some shade in the garden. We have such wonderful memories, and we love looking at the photos to remind us of sharing such a special occasion with friends and family.
As you get to know us a little more, you will realize we have not made the decision to adopt lightly. We have tried many times to get pregnant, resulting in losses and failed attempts. We got through the hurt and disappointment together. We passionately believe we are meant to raise children, and we are strong, and determined to adopt. We have very supportive families and friends who are completely supportive of our decision to adopt. We have friends and family who have adopted children, and Kris was adopted as a baby.
We love our friends and we love food! We love to cook and certainly love to eat! We have friends come around for “tasting sessions” where we all pitch in to make delicious food that we have never tried before. Kris will go to grocery stores and butchers around New York to find new specialties for us to sample. We enjoy visiting restaurants based on our friends’ recommendations, but we also like to find hidden gems in NYC or other places we visit. We recently visited New Orleans (several times), which we love because the food is amazing (and the jazz is pretty good too)!
We regularly visit our friends in San Diego for some sun and relaxation on the beach. They live a 10 minute walk from the water in the very peaceful and laid back Ocean Beach. We love to visit the local tourist areas, like Old Town; but we also hang out on the beach and visit the local mall in Fashion Valley. We also travel down to Baja, Mexico to sample the local lobster and enjoy the sun and surf in Rosarito.
If we are in New York for Christmas, we like to get a lovely fresh tree, as we really love the festive smell. We will take a walk around New York to see the tree at the Rockefeller Center, and the tree in the park. After our walk we will have hot chocolate with marshmallows to warm up! On Christmas morning, we open our stockings (the cats have their own to open) and then Skype loved ones in England and California to wish them a Merry Christmas. We watch the Queens’ Speech from London and then have a huge Christmas meal.
Although in England we do not celebrate Thanksgiving, in the US it is best shared with great friends! Last year we spent Thanksgiving with friends in Philadelphia, enjoying the sights and the turkey!
We would be thrilled to bring a child of any race into our family. The unique multi-cultural nature of New York City, in which we live and work would be perfect for raising a child. As your child grows, we would love to share with you your child’s progress, with letters and updates. Since we were both brought up as members of the Church of England we will teach your child the importance of Christian values.
We hope to share all aspects of child raising. We are lucky enough to be able to take time off from work when necessary and we also have a supportive community of families and friends for play dates and child care.
We are very much looking forward to adopting a child with whom to share our vacations, traditions and lives. Thank you so much for looking at our profile and considering us as the family for your child. We are very grateful for this amazing opportunity!
